UK phone number

UK phone number

Postby pete25 » Sat Oct 02, 2021 9:30 am

I have an UK phone number associated with a Uk address
Im with 3 who have told me that im exceeding the roaming data limits
It looks as though i will have to cancel my 3 account and find another provider, but i think only O2 are the only ones not charging for roaming. ( for now )
Ive been thinking about Lobster , but will that affect my Ebay, Amazon & and i have a Staring bank acc.
Anyone on here with the same/similar scenario ? or advice
cheers

My wife and I both have had long term 3Uk contracts paid through a UK bank...we travel to the uk regularly but recently I've had to wait for an eye operation since March....both of us have now been disconnected here in Spain we cannot receive any uk calls we have no signal... ! It's now causing us a big big problem as many banking apps we use send us a temporary security access codes so now we can't access our online accounts without the codes ! My wife is a uk carer but has been here waiting for my op to come through, her company can no longer contact her....it's a pretty dire situation...obviously caused by the dreaded B word !

Yep, what’s happening now was once upon a time waved away, condescendingly, as scaremongering.

One option is to keep the account, but stop using roaming data, i.e. put it in airplane mode and just use it at home or in other wifi zones. Nothing is supposed to be changing with Three until May 2022 so maybe you've just exceeded the monthly allowance on your contract or other existing 'fair usage' limits?

I’m with EE and They said nothing is changing until January with them. Another fiasco to look forward to

I'm with EE too. There are two options other than paying the £2 daily charge for every day you use it. One is not to have renewed your contract after 7 July 2021, but also they say:

"From January 2022, if you have a plan with Smart Benefits, you can choose our Roam Abroad pass as a Smart Benefit and you won’t have to pay the £2 daily charge in the EU.

Alternatively, you can take Roam Abroad as an add-on to your plan at any time for £10 a month and you won’t have to pay the £2 daily charge in the EU." This includes the US and Australia too.

It will certainly be 'interesting' to see how it works out! My SIM-only contract ended on 4 July so I'm unsure which way to go at the moment.

This may sound simplistic, but have you tried rebooting the phone? I occasionally lose data and phone signal on my UK phone, but a reboot sorts it out every time. Obviously you also need your roaming switched on. Three aren't supposed to be changing anything until May 2022, but even then it shouldn't cause you to be "disconnected", you will just pay more to use it.

Hi
If you do not use your UK number every 6 months they assume you no longer require the number and get disconnected, I forgot once to activate mine with O2 and got cut off. However, I spoke to the CEO and he arranged for it to be reconnected and reimbursed by balance. I only use mine for receiving some bank codes but mostly use my Spanish Orange server for everything.
