It will be because your phone is too old for the update so it tries but can't do it. You probably have automatic updates on. If you turn that off in Settings the problem will probably go away.

How to turn off automatic software updates on an iPhone
Open the Settings app and scroll down to the General tab.
Tap the Software Update tab. Click Software Update in General. ...
Tap "Automatic Updates." Select the Automatic Updates tab. ...
On the next page, toggle the switch off (so it turns white instead of green).

It has come the parting of the ways you should look for a more recent phone, that is the trouble with Apple products they like to dictate what you can do with their products

I had a IPhone 4. Apple stated about 11 months ago. IPhone 4 will no longer update. The sad thing with me never used it as a phone just listened to talking books. I used to burn them onto my laptop and then put them into my ITune library. Yes you got it couldn’t even do that it just kept crashing. So agree Apple are good but it is their way or no way.

I think the above poster is right, it´s too old for update, so you may start to see these issues. The release date of the iphone 4 was June 2010, we are now in 2021.

No manufacturer any, ever - updates 11 year old equipment, 4 or 5 years Apple.

I´d suggest a 10 plus year old phone is ripe for replacement as NO software or apps are likely to work.
