It sounds like your speed is dropping below 18Mpbs if your firestick is struggling.

You need to take the speed tests with a pinch of salt - as speed tests only give you a 30 second snapshot of speed - not stability - so you could have 18Mbps, then drop down to 1, a minute later (tripping up your TV), so rendering the speed test, 'useless'. Also the internet provider can throttle individual devices or portals - In English - you can do a speed test on your PC< but your Firestick could be throttled independently. Summary, you cannot use a speed test to measure accurately.

Now it could also be a poor TV service on your Firestick?

Best way to get to the bottom of this - is when you have a problematic channel, buffering?? see if you can connect your firesticks wifi your mobile internet (hotspot mobile data) phone connection. Most modern smartphones allow this - alternatively try your TV on a friends or neighbours (different) internet connection.

To get 'to the bottom' of this, you need to establish whether the issue is with the internet provider not delivering a stable service (or throttling speed to protect their network resources) OR simply a poor TV service.

Unfortunately have to run through a few things - as without stable internet, you won't get stable TV and also with a poor TV service, if you have decent internet, you will won't have stable TV - so if an ongoing issue, best to get to the bottom of it & find out where the issue is. We are with this company, our internet seems ok but the Perseo TV included in the package is absolutely useless. Have contacted them many times but just get fobbed off with pathetic excuses!
Anyone else having the same problem?

Telfy are ok.

Above is an example of an ISP that is throttling the connection.

It is nigh on impossible to detect / prove for the home user.

You do a speedtest (for example) on your laptop and it states '100Mbps' - but you sit there with your TV box trying to watch an HD film, which requires 5-6Mbps and you get buffering. Logically, the first thing people do, is check a speedtest - and when you see the number of 100Mbs, you wonder why there's an issue - guess it must be the TV service???

The problem is the internet provider can see every connected device your routed is attached to and INDIVIDUALLY throttle the specific IP address (the device being used).

I have been called into a meeting between an argument with a Telefonica engineer and a client who had multiple IPTV providers and always had problems. As anticipated TF engineer blamed every single TV service provider the client had used. I connected the clients box (not working on TF fibre, buffering etc) to my mobile phones data WiFi hotspot and it worked perfectly. TF engineer stepped outside of the room to phone his boss. Just to clarify, client had fast fibre and had buffering, yet when using the much slower mobile data connection from my phone, worked perfectly.

Don't allow your internet provider to deny (they will not admit to most things!) - they know you only have a speed test to check, which they already navigate around, so you can't possibly see what they are doing - even if not throttling (due to lack of resources), they could have instability, which again, won't show on a speed test.

The pairing your box to a different (mobile) connection allows you to confirm if the issue is with your internet provider or the TV service itself. Or if you don't have this option, you can check the box on perhaps a friend or neighbours internet connection - just make sure it is NOT the same internet provider. Test results or proof such as this can be used to argue your case or get you out of a contract from a poor provider.

Good afternoon,

Telecable have just opened a new office down by the Arches (opposite Mas&Mas), and have some great offers for FIBRE, phones, and TV packages.

They also have a special 'ON HOLD' bonus, where you can carry on paying a minium fee whilst you are away, without having to cancel your contract.

Feel welcome to contact me for more information.

Take care,

Jess :)
