We've always had issues with wi-fi coverage. Over the years i've tried the usual 'TP link' boosters and others with little antennas - they do work, but the problem I had is there were still dead spots in the property. I even tried multiple boosters - as at €20 or so each, but still had problems in parts of the house.

I thought I'd finally 'bite the bullet' and up the budget to try to get 100% coverage - I bought a mesh system - plug one unit into the existing modem, place another unit in the middle of the house, press sync - done. For the first time in 15? years, I actually have fast WiFi throughout the property - definately the way forward if you have any speed or coverage issues - https://www.amazon.es/Deco-Repetidor-in ... 163b7d9294 €109 and can add more repeaters. Much more powerful than the €20 home units - different league. However, this is all based on your specific property. I have a router on the ground floor tucked away and in a cupboard and is not in an ideal location. Combine that with a 3 storey property with an underbuild - making coverage more tricky than a bungalow or apartment.

The more walls/floors/concrete in the way between the router and the signal reception where needed, the more you will struggle. It's clear to me that the cheap ones are fine for a little boost or a smaller property, but you may need to review other options such as the mesh in a bigger property or if you still find dead spots - or slow WiFi.

I have just bought a smart doorbell that is connected wirelessly to the internet and I can use my smartphone to monitor callers.

The problem is that the signal strength is not enough to travel through one wall and a solid aluminium gate to the doorbell mounted outside.

If I unmount it and bring it inside the gate, it works, but as soon as I go through the gate it loses the signal

Would a WIFI extender, plugged into an electric socket outside, solve my problem?

Theoretically it should do & would be the cheapest option - making sure outside, is of course not actually outside - but weatherproofed or under cover in some manner.

Also same would probably apply with a mesh system which gives a massive overall signal boost - but you'll spend over €100 as opposed to €20 - so the cheaper option would be the one to try firstly. As long as you can return the item if doesn't work. On my mesh system, I tested I can pick up the WiFi signal 10 metres+ outside of the property, through a wall or two.
