Bus from Alicante airport to Rojales.

This all bring up how fairly badly we are served by public transport in this area. Yes, you can get to Elche but then what? Only 3 buses a day from there and that is if they turn up. Just one to Torrevieja in the morning coming back at around 1 pm. Even the fairly regular Guardamar bus fails to materialise sometimes. Two girls staying next door to us got the the bus to Guardamar then the one to Alicante. Coming back, got to Guardamar and then waited over an hour and no bus so ended up getting a taxi back.
And, once you're here, you would find it difficult to get anywhere as they are few and far between.
Probably why most people hire a car for their stay. It will cost about the same to hire a car for a couple of weeks (depending on the time of year) as a taxi to and from the airport would cost. (The taxi isn't allowed to pick up fares to go back which could reduce the cost).
It's a shame, really, because just a couple of k up the road and you are in San Luis which has a good, cheap and fairly reliable bus service but only around Torrevieja. Once in Torrevieja there is another good service to Alicante or Cartagena or (not so good) Orihuela. But here we seem to be at the mercy of the Gods who run the public transport services.
Even if you are lucky enough to get one of the few services you may have some distance to go to actually get it.
They are talking of a rail service and the area between Los Montesinos and Quesada is being mooted as the station. I'll probably be long gone and in the ground before that happens, though.
At the moment, I should think the best way would be either to Alicante then Guardamar then a taxi for around €10 from there or direct bus to Elche and then Guardamar and then taxi.
When we bought here, bus stop signs were being put up all over the place including the road that goes from Coopers to La Laguna. These disappeared after a couple of months with no buses ever seen.
Maybe there just isn't the demand for them and I often see the Guardamar bus go past with just 2 or 3 people on it.
Having a car is pretty much a must in this area.
Mind you, the coach trips to Elche, Alicante, Benidorm, Murcia and so on do help a lot and are a fairly cheap way of getting around.
