bus travel from alicante airport to Quesada

I love Quesada but if I had to have just one item on a wish list for improving anything at all, it would be a good transport infrastructure. I always hire a car as I find it is often cheaper for the duration of my stay than getting a cab there and back, and I have the option of using the car for day trips etc whilst in Spain. If only life were a fairytale and we all had a fairy godmother with a magic wand ;-) :text-lol:

Jan
Dont we have a town councilor whos job is to look after foreigners?
I would say that the most of the alicante airport users from Quesada are expats so is this councilor pushing for the existing red tape to be eased so that a regular airport bus service from queseda, benijofar, benimar, Rojales etc can be established.
Why is it so difficult in Spain to do something simple?

I think you have hit the nail on the head - 'Red Tape'. This issue has been raised more times than I can remember on this forum and whichever way it has been approached there does not seem to be a solution, as simple as it appears.

I can't understand how Torrevieja can have such a good bus service, even an airport bus, and Quesada, Benijofar, Benimar, Rojales etc does not. Even if the better bus services were 'Summer times' only, it would be so helpful for many....and a good bus service to/from the beach would no doubt get well used in the Summer too.

If anyone on here can speak and write good Spanish there is probably a Councillor for the area who could be contacted (ask in the municiple centre they are generally quite helpful) but I wouldn't hold out much hope of any change.

If any of our members do make contact, please let us know what is said, as we have had so many 'Chinese whispers' and 'thoughts' as to why we don't have a good bus service and airport bus but no definitive answers. The last 'guessing' answer written on this forum once was that it would take too long for the airport bus to do a pick up in Quesada but the bus straight goes past the Consum roundabout and the Arches. If just one of these stops could be used it would be handy, at least as a drop off from the airport.

There is a councillor for foreigners in Quesada. His name is Derek Monks. He is a very helpful and knowledgeable man and has helped me several times. He has an office in the Quesada town hall. This subject has been brought up at several meetings I have been to. It seems the bus routes are not in the remit of Quesada Council and are the "property" of the bus companies. If there were to be a "need" I suppose there would be a financial interest in providing buses...

I suppose it is all down to market forces. If "everyone" hires a car, there will be no one using the buses and they will be running with no passengers...

Vicious circle I suppose.... no buses so hire a car, hire a car and there will be no buses..

I dont think the bus companies do think. When i first came to Spain i stayed for two months in La Mata. There was a good bus service to Torriveja but to get to habaneras meant a trip to torre then another bus to habaneras and yet a taxi from habeneras to La Mata took about ten mins. Couldn't the bus company see the potential of a bus service from La Mata to a major shopping centre ?
I was also astounded to find there was no direct regular bus service from torre to Zenia Boulevard, why?, it's the major shopping centre for miles around and has no regular bus service from torre.
Love Spain but it's not the most imaginative, enterprising country I've lived in. Anybody have any ideas why ?

I asked Rosa Tours why they don't do a shopping trip to Zena Boulevard once and they said they tried it once a while back, even picking up in Quesada at Consum, and nobody used it so they stopped it.
I couldn't believe it!!!! They had not advertised it anywhere as far as I know and they do send me trips etc now and again to place on this forum and never thought that maybe this vast forum with thousands of members and visitors might be interested in a weekly or even monthly trip to Zenia Boulevard, picking up at stops along the way.
Someone wasn't thinking there either!

Dave's coaches had a coach from Quesada (and Rojales etc) to Zenia Boulevard advertised on its website. Hardly anyone used it so they stopped it.

A few years ago my husband and I went on the coach trip to the shopping centre in Murcia as there was something we wanted to get (before La Zenia) and there were only 2 men on the Coach. Women love shopping, not so men but they don't mind walking round the Markets.

Yes that's true but I think there may be a bit more for the men at Zenia. My husband doesn't like shopping much at all but he likes Zenia Boulevard and there are some great restaurants & bars there too and without a car we could both have a drink or two with our lunch.
