Covid Vaccine

Postby Sunnytime100 » Mon Jan 04, 2021 11:23 am

Hi everyone - My wife and I are on day 62 of our 90 days in Spain as non-residents. We have active EHIC Cards and are desperate to get the Covid Vaccine both being in the high risk category with health issues and we have not been mixing since we got here. My wife is a breast cancer survivor and taking Tamoxifen. I called the UK Government NHS helpline and they told me that our cards should cover us for the vaccine here. Does anyone know who we contact to get the ball rolling and at least register our interest in having the vaccine? Do we have to contact the Dona Pepa Health Centre or another number?

We do not want to risk travelling back to our flat in East London right now to get the vaccine as it is too dangerous for us with the current infection levels.

Your help and advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Alan

Your days in Spain start from the 1st of January 2020 any time before you were an EU citizen so you are actually only on day 4 of you allowed 90 days in a rolling 180
You need to contact the health centre in the area you live with your EHIC card

I don’t think you have a chance of getting vaccinated in that time scale you’ve mentioned
There are two doses, 21 days apart , and firstly only given to seriously at risk groups and carers etc
From El Pais

The ministry is hoping to complete the first phase of the immunization drive between January and March. Phase 2 is set to cover the April-to-June period, followed by Phase 3 between July and September. No decision has been made yet on the order of who will be vaccinated in these last two phases. The Health Ministry has, however, classified the population into 15 groups that will have access to the vaccine at different times. It is expected that 60% of Spain’s population of 47 million will be vaccinated by August. This, however, depends on the results of the clinical trials of the seven vaccines that have been bought by the European Commission. French pharmaceutical company Sanofi, for example, is set to begin another Phase 2 trial in February, which could mean their vaccine is approved later than August, as had been expected.

Bear in mind if you have the first dose in Spain you should have the booster in Spain as you are not recommended to mix vaccines & they are 3 months apart

You have my sympathies, but maybe you should reconsider and return to the UK. I haven’t been to my Casa since last March whilst awaiting a COVID-19 solution.

You could always try the private route don't know if they can get the vaccine but worth a try.

It seems that your 90 days will end on 01 April and, by that time only care home residents and healthcare workers and assistants, and people with underlying health problems would have been vaccinated.

The group of people due for vaccination next would have included someone like yourselves but, you’d now be back in the UK.

If you consider yourself to be in the, underlying health problem tranche, you’d have to persuade a Doctor that you were vulnerable but, without a verifiable history, you might find that difficult.

Personally, I’d keep a close eye on the vaccination programme in the UK and keep n contact with your GP surgery. If ‘your turn’ comes up earlier than 01 April, return early to get your jab

Forgive me for asking what might be a simple question. But I would have thought that only Spanish residents would get the vaccine in Spain.
Surely if you are a UK resident then you would be called for by the NHS in the UK. Is that not the case?
