Face Masks Whilst Driving
by marcliff » Mon Jul 27, 2020 3:12 pm
RACE, the Spanish driving organisation. have issued advice on when face masks don't need to be worn whilst driving.
Children under 6 do not need a face mask.
Individuals driving in a car or with those of the same household do not need a face mask. However, if you leave the car or come into contact with others then the mask needs to be worn. If you leave the car to refuel you need one, if you are paying at an attended toll booth you need one, if you are paying at an attended fuel station you need one, if you are collecting a takeaway from a drive through fast food outlet you need on. Basically, anywhere you could come in contact with other people.
If you are carrying passengers who do not live in your household you all need to wear one*
A single motorcyclist does not need one. If carrying a passenger from a different household you need a mask unless you are both wearing full face helmets. If jet helmets are used then both should wear a mask.
If you have medical or psychological condition that prevents you wearing one then you don't need a mask. eg respiratory or anxiety problems.
*It is not made clear if people from the same household includes visitors but, as it says that includes people you share living accommodation with, it seems it would be unnecessary if they are actually staying in your house. I would suggest (just my opinion) that you should all wear one when picking someone up at the airport as they are not yet sharing your household.
