Spain has reported its steep rise in coronavirus
by Murt » Thu Jul 16, 2020 9:17 pm
16 July 2020.
Spain has reported its steepest daily rise in coronavirus infections in more than two months with 580 new cases, after a rise of 390 cases on Wednesday. The regions of Aragon and Catalonia lead the increase, Reuters reports.
Authorities have reimposed restrictions in some areas of Catalonia, including home confinement in the Lleida area, affecting about 160,000 people, and health officials there said measures would have to be taken in the capital, Barcelona, but gave no further details.
More than 170 localised outbreaks have emerged across Spain since it lifted its nationwide lockdown – one of the strictest in Europe – on 21 June, with Catalonia at the centre of new outbreaks.
Spain’s health ministry put the number of cases confirmed in the region over the past 24 hours at 142, up from 91 the previous day. In Aragon in the east, the number of infections jumped to 266 from 160, according to the health ministry.
The Catalan health authority, which counts both confirmed and suspected cases, said the number soared to 1,293 overnight, the highest since at least 18 May, when the counting methodology changed.
Barcelona, home to 1.6 million people and one of Europe’s most visited cities, tripled its number of coronavirus cases from last week.
Authorities have also imposed some restrictions in three neighbourhoods of a Barcelona suburb that houses about 260,000 people.

It was inevitable as restrictions were lifted. we are going to have to live with this virus until a permanent solution is found. This is now a question of economic survival versus an acceptable casualty rate. all the population can do as individuals is keep apart from others because no one knows who has the virus or not. If they ignore all the good advice out there then that is a question of personal choice, a game of Russian roulette.

Echo the above.
You need to take care of yourself first and foremost. Take all reasonable precautions and you shall be fine.
There's risk in everything and 99.9%of the population won't suffer from this thing. But you still need to take care.

Don't know if this will get lost among all the other threads but, as a consequence of the fresh outbreaks (especially in Catalonia) the French Prime Minister, Jean Castex, has hinted that France may close the border with Spain again and only essential travel, returning to primary residences and so, may be reinstated.
Let's hope not and the report that "he has not ruled out the new closures "means that he doesn't actually rule it in.

Totana, a municipality in Murcia just above Mazarron, has been placed into Phase 1 of the lockdown.
An agricultural area with a population of around 35,000 has recorded 55 new cases in the last 24 hours. A very large (some 60%) proportion of those affected are Latin American and it's believed the latest outbreak originated in one bar.
They are now not allowed to leave their homes except for essential purposes, 2 health centres have been closed and will concentrate on the treatment of new cases and day centres have been closed. Interiors of restaurants and bars are closed and the outside areas will be limited to 50% of capacity. Movement in and out of the municipality has been stopped.
It is feared that these cases will increase as it has been estimated that over 300 people passed through the area where the infections took place and they are tracing those to give them PCR tests (the only way they can check and, yes, agreed they do throw up false positives).
Previously reported that an outbreak occurred on the beach of Sant Joan but now confirmed as the San Juan beach to the north of Alicante, apparently carried by 6 youngsters from Alicante who had been visiting a pub there. Workers at the pub have tested negative for the virus.
Some 8 people have now been hospitalised in Santa Pola.
One big negative is the number of cancellations from tourist for accommodation and flights. France has been talking of closing the borders with Spain and the reporting in the UK press on the outbreaks and the restrictions, wearing of masks and so has been heavily highlighted.
Germany is reporting the number of outbreaks in their popular destination of the Balearic Islands with some flights from those countries being cancelled due to a lack of passengers and hotels showing a marked increase in the number of booking cancellations.
