And with the new variant, you have to self isolate for 10 days even if you are double jabbed.

Spain is now asking for a covid test (doesn't say which type) for travellers from countries on the red list even with the double jabbed.

America, Canada, Australia and other countries have also banned travellers from those southern African countries unless they are US citizens and it has not banned flights

Spain is banning flights from those countries from Tuesday to allow residents to return.

And, yes, I recall now that you only have to self isolate in UK if you are not double jabbed but this new variant will require self isolation for 10 days even if you are double jabbed.

Just wondering what the backlash will be in UK when they make face mask wearing mandatory. When I went back a couple of months ago virtually no-one was wearing them on public transport or in shops. No hand gel available and social distancing was a joke. Even the arrows on the floors in supermarkets were being ignored as were the distance markers. It seems they think it's all over and people were actively boasting they hadn't been jabbed

Wef midnight Dec 1st, only those with a certificate of double vaccination will be allowed entry to Spain from third countries including UK. A covid test or proof of recovery will no longer be accepted and is due to the new variant.

Hi

Does anyone know how this impacts on 12-16 year olds?

Under 12s I believe are exempt from the new entry into Spain rules from 1/12, however, I'm unsure if my Son who is 15 and planning on visiting for Xmas with his older brother will be allowed in having only had one vaccine dose so far.

Anyone got any info on this?

I would be most appreciative of any factual sound advice/information.

Many thanks

I don’t understand how if you are pinged by track & trace due to possible contact with an infected person, you must isolate for ten days ‘if you have the new variant’!

How on earth would you know what variant you might have based on nothing more than being pinged on your phone?

It's not you that is affected if you read the statement. It is if you have come into contact with anyone who has been found to have the new variant.

"All contacts of someone infected with Omicron must self isolate for 10 days".

From Reuters, Informacion Diario and other Spanish newspapers.

"Spain now requires that all travellers entering Spain from the UK over the age of 12 shows proof of full vaccination against SARS Covid-19. The previous exemptions of a PCR or antigen test prior to entry or a certificate of recovery from the virus within the past 6 months are withdrawn".

Unfortunately, the orders this new one refers to states "certificate of full vaccination" which I take to mean having both vaccinations.

As UK has now recommended the time between 1st and 2nd doses should be reduced, couldn't your 15 year old ask for the second one before travelling (bearing in mind it has to be more than 14 days before travel)?

Statement from the Min of Health in UK now says the new rules on PCR tests to enter UK and the compulsory wearing of face masks in shops and on public transport will take effect as from 4am on Tuesday 30th November.

Only British residents will be allowed to enter UK from the countries on the red list and must quarantine for 10 days in an approved hotel.

The restrictions in Spain for travellers from the UK will come into effect from midnight on Tuesday so all arrivals from 1st December will be affected. The rules will not apply to UK citizens who are legally resident in Spain and they can still travel with one of the criteria on the Covid certificate including a covid test if they are not fully vaccinated in the same manner as EU travellers.

Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately only having just had his first vaccine I don't think he will be able to have the 2nd one any time soon.

Kind regards

This all seems a little OTT considering there have been only 2 cases in UK and it is described as very mild compared to other variants. There have been no deaths with it (so far).
Maybe the governments are concerned that they got bad press for not acting sooner with blocking flights from, for example, India and the delta strain.

Portugal now requires a PCR test plus proof of double vaccination for arrivals from UK. Switzerland has banned all Brits from entering even if jabbed but have also banned arrivals from the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Egypt and Malawi along with the previous bans from southern Arican countries. Only Swiss citizens and residents can enter from those countries but must also have a PCR test before travelling and quarantine for 10 days.

Spain has confirmed that all those over 12 must be double vaccinated even though UK rules don't give a 2nd one for those aged 12 to 16 unless living with an immunosuppressed relative or have underlying problems. Sorry, but this was reported:

Officials have said anyone over age 12 must have had both doses of the jab even though the UK's vaccination rules don't allow second doses for that age group, Spain will therefore consider them unvaccinated.

The ones who tested positive for Omicron on entering the Netherlands from S Africa (61 positives on two flights with 600 passengers) had taken an antigen test before travelling and governments are now saying the antigen test cannot detect this new variant which is why they have reintroduced the PCR test which they say can pick it up.

But, a report I read, said that only ten had the Omicron variant. If that’s true 51 antigen tests failed by either, failing to detect the COVID tests or, were fraudulent

Yes, it was 61 cases but only 13 (just updated) of the omicron. You're right, if they all had antigen tests then maybe that test is not very good for any of the strains. Or, as you said, fake tests.
Seems to be a lot of fake certificates around which is worrying.
