Beach fishing
Beach fishing

Good morning all,
This is going to be a bit of a long winded question, for which I’ll apologise for upfront, but please bare with me. Basically I’m hoping a few of my fellow anglers can give me some advice, I’ve recently retired and as we’ve a house in Dona Pepa, once the world is heading back towards some sort of normality, I’m planning to bring over some fishing tackle for when we’re over, I’m basically a carp angler here in the U.K so have not much idea about sea fishing, but I’d like to start to do some beach fishing as well as some river/lake fishing, So I’m also going to bring out a couple of old spod rods to hopefully use off of the beach at Guardamar or maybe Torrevieja, so my questions are these, does anyone have any experience of fishing from there? And what sort of species do you target? What size of lead do you need to hold bottom in the surf? Would a 5-6oz gripper lead be sufficient? As that’s probably what the rods maximum casting weight are rated too, many thanks to all that managed to read all the way through my ramblings, any information will be gratefully received,
Regards Tim

Hi Tim, you can get the license from the Torrevieja tackle shop. Take your TIE card and the person on the counter will fill out the form for you. I paid 25 euros and picked the license up from the shop a couple of weeks later. Over 60 you don’t have to reapply as the licence is permanent. They speak good English in the shop in case your Spanish is a bit rusty. I tend to use a jig rig off the rocks or Guardamar pier, also use float lure in calmer tides. 5 to 6oz lead should be fine as you don’t really want to be casting if the conditions are a bit rough. Just get out there and try different methods, I’m sure you will find the one that suits you and your tackle. Decathlon in la zenia have a good range of tackle at a decent price. Torrieveja tackle shop is well stocked, but more for the real professional than a hobbyist like myself, hence the price difference. You can’t fish the majority of the beach or coast between July and September, due I think to the influx of holidaymakers. Good luck and tight lines.

Hi Yan, thanks for your reply, I know in Spain that I need a license before I go sea fishing as well as freshwater, I’m used to buying one in the U.K. for coarse fishing, so that’s not a problem, I’m assuming that my N.I.E number will suffice in place of a T.I.E number, and thanks for the information re tackle shops, I’ll check them out, I’m hoping to bring a lot of the terminal tackle I need with me, ie, hooks, weights, beads and lines etc, but I’ll need top ups and bait of course, so it’s good to know.
Many thanks, Tim
