The nearest profesional team is Elche CF. They have just been promoted back to the liga 1,2,3 which is the second tier of Spanish football, one down from La Liga. I am a season ticket holder so if you require any more info on Elche CF i will endeavour to help.
Amateur teams are plentiful, Rojales (Thader) have a reasonable British fan base as does Torrevieja, San Fulgencio, Almoradi & other local towns all have teams so it depends on what standard of footy you are looking for. The nearest La Liga teams would be Valencia & Villareal.
Hope this is of use to you.

Thanks for the information Dave I'm not to bothered about the standard of games just as long as I can catch a game locally. Being a lifelong West Ham fan I can't be too particular lol. Thanks again for the info. Regards Barry.

I did spend some time supporting Los Montisinos. They had a strong UK following, and they called themselves (with shirts with the name on the back) as the FULL MONTY. They used to meet in the bar at the end of town as you go west, before the games, home & away.

nigieboy,
The fixture list for the coming season is due out tomorrow, Elche are currently playing a number of pre-season friendlies (against amateur teams) The first game at the Martinez Valero stadium will take place on August 10th with a 2045hrs kick off, although officially a friendly, they will play Almeria for the "festa de Elche" trophy. There is usually a decent crowd for this which will probably be the final game before the season starts.
If you wish i will post back here the opening fixtures when they are announced.
Regards & MUCHO ELCHE!!!!!!
