Are there any options for temp car insurance

Are there any options for temp car insurance

Postby karllap » Mon Apr 03, 2023 5:06 pm

Hi, I have a holiday home which we currently only use for around 12 weeks a year. We have a car which we use whilst we are here and the rest of the time it is at secure parking.
So, just wondering if there are any insurance companies that would insure for the time we use the car or offer temp insurance

Your car must be insured at all times even if in a driveway or garage or is, indeed, inactive.
Only by taking out a Baja Temporal (equivalent of SORN) can road tax and insurance not be necessary. You'd then have to take it off again later.

Thanks for the info, I'm now wondering if there are any specialist insurance companies that would reflect the minimal usage as I would assume this is quite a wide spread situation

Call half a dozen insurance companies and ask.

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion. The aim of the post though was to ideally see if anyone has had any experience or has any information which would also be helpful for anyone else in my situation

Hi as others have quoted the vehicle is to be insured at all times. I once tried to cancel a policy but insurance company wouldn't oblige because of the clause mentioned.

If your car were in the secure parking area and (for example) another car was accidentally driven into it, would you be happy that your car wasn't insured?

I would hope the secure parking insurance to cover it.

But either way the post was just to see if there was anyone who had any information about this or had been through a similar experience and had found a solution ie, the risk of a claim is substantially reduced due to the car only actually being used for 20% of the year so was wondering if

* There was an option of only insuring it then (due to information provided I have found that the answer is no)
* If there are insurance companies that take this into account and reflect it in the price

The correct answer is NO you can not have insurance cover of a vejhicle for less than 12 months as the Spanish law requires the vehicle to be insured at all times even parked up with no wheels
