BE SEEN AND KEEP SAFE

BE SEEN AND KEEP SAFE

Postby JOHNNOBEV » Mon Dec 07, 2020 7:32 am

With the sun disappearing over the horizon a lot earlier now can cause problems.

When I am driving in the evening I drive most of the time with my headlights on main beam.
I do this mainly on the roads of Quesada where the lighting is poor.

The reason being is that those Pedestrians, Cyclists, Scooter users who are dressed in dark coloured clothing, are very hard to see.
Sometimes, it’s not until virtually the last minute that you can spot them.
It would appear that they are not worried about the safety of themselves or other road users.

Ideally, people should wear lighter coloured clothing or fluorescent arm bands or sashes.
Cycle and Scooter riders should have lights on their Cycles and Scooters, or wear some other form of reflective device.
It would help if Pedestrians carried torches.

Using full beam is not only dangerous as it dazzles oncoming vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians etc i am fairly certain it is against the law in urban areas. Your actions, contrary to your belief of saving a life, are putting people in even more danger & could lead to more accidents/loss of life.
You should have your headlights on dipped beam, that is by far the safest, if you feel the need for extra lighting use low level front fog/driving lights.

The most ridiculous thing I ever heard, driving everywhere on main beam . If you can’t see enough on dip beam maybe you should consider your ability to still be on the road.

respect the 1.50m distance you need to stay away from cyclists could also help…

or put a red flashy light on top of your car and all the others will now: HIDE !!! he is coming…

Any suggestions for some kind of device which could advise drivers that their headlights are on full beam?

The dashboard warning should be enough. If not oncoming drivers flashing you madly.
