Breakdown cover

Breakdown cover

Postby Brian » Tue Sep 11, 2018 3:29 pm

i plan to drive through France into Spain later in the year and although I have a good and reliable car, I would prefer to have breakdown assist, just in case.
Any advice on the best company to go through?

If you are a Uk resident the best company in my opinion is RAC followed by Greenflag , if spanish resident and bank with Sabadell and have a Gold card with them it is provided plus Travel insurance

I used Green Flag who gave good coverage and worked out very reasonable as well.

Europ Assist is the best there is. Not cheapest, but in my opinion the best.

Just remember your chosen Breakdown agents can not pick you up if you breakdown on a Motorway in France or Spain you have to ring the special number and the police send out their breakdown chosen company so try to make it off the motorway It happened to me near Lyon and I phoned the RAC and they advised that I should try to get off the motorway which I did and they came for me and booked me and my wife into a Hotel in Lyon I was thier for 5 nights then they got me a hire car from Hertz and I continued my journey to Costa Blanca then went back to pick up my car but it had not been fixed so they arranged for me to keep the car and change it at Dover for a RHD and arranged a flight back with 2 tickets to pick up the car when it was ready They would have brought it back to Durham if I wanted but I thought I would have another few days in France free of charge ,they even paid for the petrol and a taxi from the Airport to the garage plus also from Durham to Newcastle airport I believe the final bill was around 8000 pound they paid First class service
