Car Insurance & Car MOT etc

Postby Butch » Thu Oct 14, 2021 6:50 am

Morning

Thinking of purchasing a car and leaving at a storage car park at the Airport. My questions are as follows:

1. When they say the car is insured and not the driver - does this mean that if there were a claim that the driver at the time takes responsibility even though they may not be the policy holder? Or does it still affect the policy holder should a claim go through, then would you have to decalre it in the UK?

2. When purchasing the car in laymans terms how do I do it i.e do I get a log book, how do I tax it, how do I check it has an MOT, how can I check if there is any oustanding finance on it? All the usual things you take for granted as you know what to do in the UK.

TIA hopefully I will be able to understand how it all works in Spain.

THE CLAIM WOULD BE MADE AGAINST THE ‘INSURER’, NOT AN INDIVIDUAL SO SEEMS LOGICAL THE POLICYHOLDER WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE.

Or does it still affect the policy holder should a claim go through, then would you have to decalre it in the UK? NOT 100% SURE ON THIS BUT THE GENERAL RULE WITH INSURANCE IS TELL THEM EVERYTHING, FAILURE TO DISCLOSE CAN VOID YOUR COVER! WE ALL KNOW HOW HARD THEY TRY TO WRIGGLE OUT OF PAYMENT.

BEST TO USE A GESTOR IF BUYING PRIVATELY, THEY CAN EXPLAIN THE PROCESSES AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED. IF BUYING FROM A DEALER, THEY WOULD RUN THROUGH ALL THE REQUIREMENTS WITH YOU.

You only need an ITV certificate if the car is over 4 years old. Good luck

TIA hopefully I will be able to understand how it all works in Spain.
