Can you not find anyone to drive the car over for you? I'd offer to do it for you, but not coming back until January (I have a Spanish reg vehicle here).

As for the cost, I drove my van here (with two motorbikes in the back) which cost me around €150 in fuel, €100 Channetunnel ticket and €35 for a nights stay at a really nice hotel in Pau. Keeping off of the toll roads kept costs down and enabled me to enjoy the D and N roads through France. Total driving time was 23 hours.
