Documents to be kept in car?

Documents to be kept in car?

Postby Ian_and_Angie » Wed Jan 09, 2013 10:37 am

Morning

I have inadvertantly thrown away the list of copy documents to be laminated that I thought should be kept in the car whilst driving in Spain.

Passports and Driving Lic comes to mind straight away, is there anything else I am over looking?

Many thanks

This it what I have.

Driving License, if UK one you must have the green paper copy as well as the card.

Insurance certificate with slip from bank showing payment is up to date. My Spanish insurance company does not issue new documents every year as they do in UK.

Up to date ITV certificate if appropriate.

Log Book

Up to date Suma certificate

Residencia card

Passport

If hiring you are supposed to have with you, at all times, your drivers license (both parts if you have a photo card too) and your passport or a laminated copy. Also the hire-car documentation you get given at the point of hire.

You have to carry a spare pair of glasses, if you wear them. Also we always make sure the hire car company supply the yellow high-vis jackets and the triangles, which have to be compulsorily carried in all cars. Not all hire-companies automatically put them in the car but we always check and when asked they will supply them (as they are supposed to!) Hope this helps - If I've missed anything I'm sure someone will say.

Oh and no backless shoes or flip-flops while driving or there is a fine...sensible really but lots of drivers are not very sensible

We bought high vis jackets because sometimes if you come in at night or into Murcia no one is there that can supply them.

Do the laminated copies have to be authorised? I thought they did but the last I heard you can get a reduced copy in the 'post box' shop and then laminated. Is there a procedure in the middle I'm missing? Does the reduced copy have to be taken to the town hall to be authorised and, if so, do they do it in Quesada? I know I should know this but senior moments are kicking in!

Also you should pin the bank receipt to your car insurance, together with the bank receipt that shows you have paid your Suma road tax! We were stopped by the Guardia once at Zaragoza. All they were interested in basically was having a sight of the bank statement receipt that said we had paid up to date road tax. They were quite brusque in their manner at first, but once they had evidence of what they were looking for, nice as anything and even advised us on the best route for our destination.

Sorry this is a late reply, but I have only just joined Talk!

With regard to the reduced laminated copy which can be done at The Post Box, they prepare it but leave it unsealed so you can go to the Town Hall, Rojales for them to authorise - they charge a couple of Euros to do this. Then return to the post box and they will complete the lamination of your document.
