Driving a friends car back to the uk from Spain

Hello to all and thanks in advance.
Unfortunately a dear friend has passed away and his widow has asked me if I would be willing to fly out to the Costa Blanca and drive the car back to the UK
I’m a non resident of Spain and live most of the year in the UK but just needed to know what paperwork I need to have in my possession to drive through Spain ,France and then UK.
Car is registered in Spain.

I’d have thought that the Insurance Policy would have cancelled upon his death. Plus, of course, he can not give you permission. However, if the car is in the widow’s name, I’d think it’d be OK.

It’s an interesting conundrum

If you are a UK resident and the car is Spanish plated you can't drive it (legally) once you are back in the UK in any event.

get it transported back to Uk will be cheaper in the end

You would need insurance and permission from the owner to drive the car in Spain. There's a form on the N332 website that you may find useful https://n332.es/documents/ The car would also need a current ITV.

As others have mentioned you cannot legally drive a Spanish registered car in the UK as a UK resident. If your friend has a Spanish driving licence she could meet you at the port. Failing that you would need to arrange for the car to be transported.

Your friend may be better off selling the car in Spain. She would probably get a better price (2nd hand Spanish registered cars are more expensive than in UK), you would also save the cost of the journey back to the UK (petrol, ferry, hotel etc) and the cost of registering the car onto UK plates.

If this is a spanish vehicle, and not able to be driven in the uk ,would the lady find it easier to sell the car on the forum? Depending on what car it is, age etc i would be interested myself.
