Driving from UK to Spain

This post seems to have been duplicated. Please see your other version of this post for my advice on Crit'Air clean air stickers.
The main decisions on your journey are:-
a) Channel Crossings - I have used the Tunnel, Plymouth/Santander, Portsmouth/Bilbao, Portsmouth/St Malo, Poole/Cherbourg, Portsmouth/Cherbourg, Portsmouth/St Malo, and Portsmouth/Caen. There are pros and cons for each choice, and I have used them all, and in February next year, I am using a new one of Hull/Rotterdam. A lot depends on where you live in the UK, and whether you use the crossing for an overnight sleep.
b) Type of accommodation you prefer on route - Most people prefer hotels, but do you select hotels just off the main road? If you do, can you eat the French food? Alternative is to choose a hotel in a city centre, where you can leave the hotel to find a local cafe. An other option during the Spring/Summer/Autumn routes is to use premium camp sites, such as Sandaya, or Yelloh Village, where you can rent a Chalet.
c) How long do you travel each day? - do you make many stops on the journey, and make it part of your holiday?, or do you drive for 7-8 hours per day, with just a couple of stops.
If you can give some more details about your preferences, it will be easier to advice you based on my experiences.

Thanks for your suggestions. We've been looking at the option of booking an overnight ferry on the Portsmouth to Santander crossing with the dogs. It would be easier on the driving for us and the dogs may very well cope better. Have you found this route ok and what is a good driving route to use from Santander to Quesada? We want to keep the cost low so non toll roads would be good. Cheers

As I said before, every route has its Pros & Cons.
Pros:-
Only 1 night at sea.
Nice ship, the Pont Avon.
You avoid the heavy tolls and cost of hotels in France.
Cons:-
You don't arrive in Santander until early afternoon, which means even if you drive non-stop to Quesada, you wont arrive until quite late at night. The first part of the journey is not motorway, and as they let the lorries off the boat first, you can get stuck behind the lorries.
2 routes:-
a) Down to Madrid via Burgos and Aranda de Duero on the E5. Then East on the E901 & E903 to La Roda, Albercete, Elda and Elche. 8hrs 15mins, 890kms.
b) South-East on the AP68 to Zaragoza, then south to Teruel and Valencia. 9hrs 45mins, 930kms
I think (a) is the best route.
Suggestion for an overnight stop:-
Hotel Julia in Aranda De Duero www.hoteljuliaaranda.es, Telefono 947 50 12 50
(Just need to check that they accept dogs.)

Forget the Hotel Julia, as I dont think its pet friendly. However, there are plenty more in Aranda De Duero that are.
