Driving from UK to Spain

Driving from UK to Spain

Postby Lin&Mal » Thu Nov 28, 2019 8:29 pm

We are planning to drive over to Quesada from the UK for the first time as we want to bring our two dogs. We have decided to use the Eurotunnel but not sure which route to use.
Can anyone tell me what things we need to think about with the journey? For example are there any restrictions on taking the dog food with us? Someone told me they'd heard you have to take a triangle and a high viz jacket when travelling through France! Is this the current practice or is this no longer the case?
Any tips will be welcomed. Many thanks.

Hi you need Hi Viz for every pasanger in the car (I carry 4 in mine), tow rope, jump leads, triangle and spare bulbs when travelling in Spain. I did Portsmouth to Santandar Ferry and there is a designated area for dogs on the deck for dogs, also allowed in cabins. The onward journey was only 9 hours to Quesada. Worth calculating cost on both routes as no overnight stay anywhere needed on my journey.

Depending on when Brexit happens you will need to get an International driving licence from the UK Post Office 1 each for France and Spain they are not the same

There is no requirement to carry spare bulbs in Spain anymore & i have never heard of jump leads being a legal requirement. With regards to a tow rope, why would that be a legal requirement seeing as it is illegal to tow a vehicle in Spain??

if you are brining tinned dog food I don't think there is a restriction so it would be advisable to have enough tinned or dried to get you home to Quesada and take water with you ( sorry I don't think I need to tell you that!!) Good luck and good journey, see you in the dog park.

Where on earth does some of this crap come from!

I doubt there is anywhere on the planet where you are legally required to carry jump leads and since towing is not permitted in France as well as Spain why in gods name would a tow rope be a requirement?

Don't be suckered into buying breathalysers either, yes technically there is a 'law' in France which says that you must have one but with no penalty whatsoever for not what is the point - without a sanction how can it even be called a law?

Only the French could come up with such nonsense!
