Driving from UK to Spain

Driving from UK to Spain

Postby Lin&Mal » Thu Nov 28, 2019 8:34 pm

We are planning to drive over to Quesada from the UK for the first time as we want to bring our two dogs. We have decided to use the Eurotunnel but not sure which route to use.
Can anyone tell me what things we need to think about with the journey? For example are there any restrictions on taking the dog food with us? Someone told me they'd heard you have to take a triangle and a high viz jacket when travelling through France! Is this the current practice or is this no longer the case?
Any tips will be welcomed. Many thanks.

Hi we drive down from Calais to quesada with our dog, we take his food for 2 day journey, plus my wife takes everything except the kitchen sink. You need triangle, spare bulb kit, first aid kit, reflective jackets one per person, we take northern France route, Ruen, le mans, and we stop over dog friendly very basic motel at anguleme, then ring road round Bordeaux over perrinees to San Sebastian, then head for zarragosa, then alicante, and then cartehena and come off torrevica for Quesada

Hi can’t remember if it’s a requirement or not we have always carried extra bits (besides the above mentioned), fire extinguisher in the car and long journeys a small can fuel and water/cloths (strange I know but years ago it helped to clean the headlights), adjust your headlight for driving on RHS. Don’t forget to carry your car insurance.
Enjoy your journey.

If you decide to drive down through France, depending upon your route, you may need Crit'Air clean air stickers. Basically, dependant upon the make of your car, and your type of fuel, you need to display one of 7 different coloured stickers in the bottom corner of your windscreen when entering their cities. For full information, have a look on the RAC website, which explains the requirements, and also gives you a link to the French Government site. It can take up to 4 weeks to be delivered, so if you are planning to drive over sooner, you may want to plan your trip avoiding the cities (something I had to do this Autumn when I changed my car 2 weeks before travelling).
