Driving in France

Just in case any members aren't aware of the change, I thought I'd post the latest information.

With effect from 1st July just gone, the national speed limit in France for roads with no separation between the carriageways has been reduced from 90 kph to 80 kph.
.
It's important to note that there are thousands of speed cameras in France - they seem to be everywhere, even out in the sticks, and many are not at all conspicuous. So be careful folks!

A while ago they also made it illegal to use speed camera
alerts on your Sat Nav.

My smartphone satnav app gets round that by warning you that "You are entering an enforcement zone" and then later informs you "You are leaving an enforcement zone".

The app is called Waze, and it's free.
Since downloading it I haven't touched my TomTom, because Waze is far better.
I just put the phone onto a windscreen mount and plug into the cigar lighter socket, then I can drive all day without the phone running out of battery.
Other users of the app post warnings of problems ahead, and Waze will advise an alternative route, if it's worth it. Waze also warns of speed cameras, traffic light cameras etc. Another feature I like is Waze's ability to find businesses, hotels, bars, shops etc - even small ones.
Worth a try!
