Driving in towns/cities in Spain

Postby michelangelo50 » Fri Sep 08, 2023 10:15 am

This may already have been talked about - if so sorry. We are coming over beginning November for 3 months and despite ringing RAC and others cannot seem to do it online. I get through to a site that says it is simple but when I put in registration number it says it’s not in the right format. It has an E sign like we used to have pre the dreaded Brexit so obviously it expects a European number, but I can’t change it. Also apparently the Spanish post offices have run out of the stickers. I can order one for France quite easily but not for Spain and RAC says they are different. If any one can offer any practical information as to how to obtain one before we arrive I would be so grateful. Many thanks.

If you have a UK registered car you cannot get a sticker for it in Spain or, indeed, for any foreign registered car. Some cities have a registration system which you can use on a daily basis but it seems only Madrid and Barcelona are doing that at the moment.

If you are driving down through France, get a crit air sticker as the French ones are recognised in Spain.

French crit'air stickers are easy to apply for on line and will be posted to a given address impressively quickly.Brownie point for the French.

Absolutely French stickers are valid in spain, and yes you can order for a British car. Crit air website, order on line but allow 6 weeks that’s how long ours took.

If you are ordering a French Crit Air sticker make sure you go to the official website https://certificat-air.gouv.fr/
As there are bogus websites out there charging considerably more for the stickers.
