Driving Licence exchage

Driving Licence exchage

Postby JayKam » Mon Mar 29, 2021 9:11 am

My Gestor advises that currently there aren't any appointments at Alicante to exchange UK licence to Spanish. Gestor registered my application in Dec 2020.

Has anyone any recent experiences

Thanks

Not true I got an appiontement last week for a choice of Elche and or Alicante for a choice of dates and times, I would change your Gestor as they dont want the work.

Solway us absolutely right, you definitely need to get a new gestor. You should still have either your UK licence or a temporary Spanish ‘permisso’ which is given by DGT when you surrender your UK licence.

I would suggest you contact Matt or Craig at One Way Services in Quesada. Tel: 966 716 540. They are extremely efficient and very helpful. They will inform you of the current appointment situation.

Good luck

Thanks guys, I did try to convey both above to my Gestor and response was that there are different kinds of appointments so if I didn't get the correct one then I would be turned away. It is confusing !
I am tempted to use someone else but I have paid the Gestor to register and complete the forms whether someone else would take over I am not sure. If someone can, then I would be happy to. Ahh....

Do you have a residency/TIE card? You can't exchange your UK licence without the card. (I'm assuming that you registered your details with the DGT before the end of December 2020)

You could arrange your medical prior to your appointment with the DGT but it's only valid for a certain length of time. (3 months?)

We picked our TIE cards up in February. Our gestor arrange for our medical & DGT appointments to be completed in the middle of March on the same day. The medical office we used is opposite the DGT in Alicante. The DGT will require a photocopy of the front & rear of your TIE card, front & rear of your UK driving licence and photo page of your passport, along with your medical, appropriate sized photo and payment.

When you surrender your UK licence you'll be given a temporary Spanish licence, valid for 3 months, which should (hopefully) be valid until you receive your new licence.

True Paul, yes I have everything ready, medical, TIE etc. Just need an appointment. Unfortunately my Gestor is not in Quesada so I'll attend the appointment on my own, when able to get one. It's been a month since my medical so need to ensure the appointment is before it runs out (3 months) and end of June.

I was talking about taking my husbands papers to Alicante in December and one of the posts mentioned a lady did all her driving licence. Then I received a message from this lady and a phone number to get in contact with her. I lost these details and wondered if anyone can help. I think she works in Guardamar. I know this is brief but someone must have put the message on here and remember

Update on my original post, my Gestor did manage to get an appointment in Alicante ( my application was registered before December 2020). Turned up at the appointment (the DGT office is in City so parking not easy). You take aticket and wait your turn. Fortunately the lady who served me spoke little English but was very helpful. Although I took copies of my licence, TIE etc she took copies herself so did not need them. She was thorough and carried out all necessary process, did take my medical certs so that all my categories can be included, she made sure this was done. Also completed and submitted my international driving permit ( need photos for both) and was issues (10.34€ and valid for a year).
Must admit, they were polite and efficient
