Driving licences

Driving licences

Postby Goodangel » Thu Oct 29, 2020 6:35 pm

Hi

I am helping a friend with exchanging her driving licence. As it stands at the moment there are no appointments at traffico. She is going back to the UK at the end of November & needs her licence to hire a car. According the traffico website you have to go in person to exchange & it has to be done by the end of December otherwise she cannot drive as her UK licence isn’t valid.
My friends seems to think that she can register on line to exchange her licence & do it when she comes back in January. Can anyone let me know how I can do this? Also does anyone know how long the medical certification is valid for?

Many thanks
Goodangel

Hello It might be worth you phoning Ani who deals solely with driving licences in our area, I'm sure she will advise you on the matter. Her number is +34 627 503 061‬. I'm sure you must have a rep. near where you live.

Hi Goodangel,

Your friend is correct. DGT know that there's shortage of appointments and have told the British Consulate that they will be releasing a form that allows residents to pre-register their intention to exchange their UK licence for Spanish. The form has to be submitted by 25 December latest (NOT 31 December), but we have yet to hear when the form will be available.

It is worth remembering that, unlike residency which has to be applied for in the region in which you live, you can apply to exchange your driving licence in any region. For example, although we live in Formentera del Segura (C.Valenciana), we did our exchanges in Cartagena (Murcia).

Regards,
Pau
