DRIVING OVER IN JULY

DRIVING OVER IN JULY

Postby Luckylouise » Sun Jun 07, 2020 6:47 pm

We are optimistically planning to drive over soon after 1st July when the borders open, but..... today in the Sunday Mail Newspaper it states that France wont be opening borders until at least July 24th. Has anyone heard anything about this??

We planned to go from our home in North East England to Chanel Tunnel staying in Northern France then next day drive down past Dijon, Lyon & Nimes to Montpellier stay over and following day drive to Quesdada.

Any other routes advice will be welcome/appreciated as we have only driven over the once.

Thank you

Cannot understand why anyone would want to come here right now, nothing is normal and it won't be for a long time, face masks, 2mtr social distancing, hand sanitizers everywhere. The high street is still being dug up, nothing is open...its not a holiday destination right now, save your money, stay home, stay safe xxxx

I drove to Portsmouth and took the ferry to Bilbao but you can also go to Santander and then a 9 hour drive to Quesada including 2 short stops and a longer one for supper. Fab journey highly recommended

Thank you all for the advice .... and thank you for the others being rude!

I only asked advice on driving over - is it any of your business as to why we are coming over? NO.... we have a villa in Quesada and we arent coming to "sun ourselves on the beach" nor are we concerned about going to bars or restaurants.....

I cant understand the rudeness of people on here sometimes

You are allowed to transit through France to another european country as far as I can see. Once you stay anywhere you have to quarantine for 14 days.

We used to drive backwards and forwards for 12yrs. Take a tip, do the Bilbao, Santander ferry. It works out cheaper and is a lot less stressful. We are in N Yorks and do the Sunday sailing from Portsmouth, usually leaves about 10.30pm. Docks at 8ish Tuesday morning then a 9 hr drive to Quesada. If you do decide to drive, we used to get the tunnel about 12 ish, 1st night at Pont L’arch south of Rouen, 2nd at Brive la Gaillarde, then last night at Ibis Castadelfells south of Barcelona. We just took our time and enjoyed the drive. Don’t know if it helps but it’s a 1500 mile drive for us. Whichever way you decide, good luck.

I am sure that the ‘rude’ comments were not personal. It’s simply that in Spain we have had some of the strictest lockdown rules in the world, whereas the U.K. seems to have been very lackadaisical in their approach to the pandemic as we have seen with pictures from beaches, parks and recent protestations. When the people of the U.K. can show proper regard to this virus and the ‘new cases’ of Covid-19 come down significantly, then and only then should they be allowed to travel abroad.
