DRIVING SANTENDER TO QUESADA

DRIVING SANTENDER TO QUESADA

Postby panchotaff » Wed Aug 04, 2021 2:16 pm

Hi

We are driving down from Santander to Quesada early September

Intend to drive from Santander via Burgos / Madrid etc

The boat docks at 2pm so hopefully we will be on our way by about 3pm

IN the past we have driven down to Quesada in one hit. However this time we are looking to break the journey with one overnight stop in the way down

Looking for recommendations for hotels about 3 - 4 hour drive from Santander.

Thank you

When we docked, at the same in early June, we didn’t get on the road until 16:15

We’ve just done exactly the same journey last week. Got out of Santander port just after 3pm then drove to a great hotel in Madrid. Large bright modern air conditioned rooms with huge bathrooms (inc full size bath), around €80 a night or €100 with breakfast.

Breakfast includes fresh fruit juice, eggs, bacon, toast, or the usual continental meats, fresh fruits and pastries! Excellent coffee, hot chocolate and various teas so well worth the extra before you set off for Quesada.

We’ve stayed there a couple of times now when going to or from ferry ports. Really nice staff, good restaurant and a very nice terrace with nice swimming pool. Highly recommend.

Secure underground parking at the hotel is €8 if you book directly with the hotel. Weblink below.

Hi, we’ve been thinking of getting a ferry over to Spain for some time now. Especially since car hire has gone through the roof. Can I ask you regular ferry users what the costs are please.

This may help.... https://www.viamichelin.co.uk/web/Routes?departure=39001%20Santander%2C%20Cantabria%2C%20Spain&departureTid=city-1216895&arrival=03170%20Rojales%2C%20Alicante%2C%20Espa%C3%B1a&arrivalTid=city-1190302&index=0&vehicle=0&type=0&distance=mi&currency=EUR&highway=false&toll=false&vignette=false&orc=false&crossing=true&caravan=false&shouldUseTraffic=false&withBreaks=false&break_frequency=7200&coffee_duration=1200&lunch_duration=3600&diner_duration=3600&night_duration=32400&car=hatchback&fuel=petrol&fuelCost=1.546&allowance=0&corridor=&departureDate=&arrivalDate=&fuelConsumption=6.8:5.6:5.6&shouldUseNewEngine=false

route 1 is the more direct route and the one you may be taking. If you click on "road map" it gives you estimated arrival times in the various towns on route. If you input the likely start time (16:00?) from the ferry you can estimate your location after x hours driving.

We've done this route loads of times and used to use the Ibis at Albacette, cheap & cheerful and an easy drive the next day. However, if you're setting off at around 16:00 it may be too far.

Ours, two passengers out of Bilbao in April and returning to Santander in June was around £1000. That was with a flexible ticket, outside cabin and Commodore Lounge on the Galicia. The Galicia has dinner and breakfast included in the price.

It sounds a lot but we saved on car hire and could transport more than the meagre airline baggage allowance. If you do book, ask on TalkQuesada for a Brittany Ferries code, as it’ll save you 10% on the car ferry fare but, not the cabin or Commodore Lounge.

Journey time down from the ports to Quesada is roughly eight hours. I drove from Santander with one stop (16:15-00:35) for fuel and the loo as, at the time, there was a curfew starting at 01:00
