Driving to Granada / Sierra Nevada

Driving to Granada / Sierra Nevada

Postby Super Simon » Sun Dec 22, 2019 9:06 pm

Evening ,

I’m thinking of driving to either Granada or Sierra Nevada to take the kids skiing in Feb 2020 .
Does anyone have any advice on where is best to stay for a few days in either of these 2 resorts and if the skiing is good in February please ?

I appreciate it’s a 4 hour drive from Quesada but if the teaching slopes are good and close to the hotels it’s got to be worth it for a few days ?

I just need facts to allow me to convince the rest of the household ?

Best wishes to all for a great Christmas and a Happy new year and thanks to everyone for their invaluable assistance all year .

Hi Simon, I stayed here: https://goo.gl/maps/LmSDd4d25uMvVnQL8, it was in January a few years ago. Some 15 minutes drive to the slopes. Located in the forest, awesome views from the hotel. Easy trip and beautiful landscapes all the way to Sierra Nevada. You will need snow chains to drive from Granada up to the mountains, including to the hotel I mentioned (I bought mine at a petrol station there, better have them with you). Totally worth it, Sierra Nevada is the closest place for skiing. Not sure about February, I believe the season is short.

Ski season in the Sierra Nevada goes on until May or, sometimes, even June.
February would be ideal.

You could use a hotel search website such as booking .com which give all info you may require including location and distance from local attractions.

Will you need snow chains? Be prepared, warm blankets and shovel. Sorry I don't mean to be a wet blanket.

Morning ,

Plenty of room in the car if you fancy sitting beside an 8 year old for 4 hours ??
On the snow chains topic ,I hadn’t thought of that but hopefully the Spanish are better than us Brits at clearing the roads so fingers crossed it’ll be fine ?

Thanks again to all

Not too sure about the Granada area but be warned that in the snowier areas of Spain the Guardia Civil won't let you continue your journey without snow chains so it may be worth checking that out before you travel.
Just a thought!!
