Early ITV

Early ITV

Postby NeilM » Sat Apr 27, 2019 7:31 am

Hello. My car is due an ITV at a time when I'm not in Spain. Is it possible to present my car many months early (6 months)?. I realise I would effectively lose many months but in order to normalise the situation to a time when I know I will be in Spain it could be worth it.

Yes, it's something you can do, just book an ITV appointment.

Bear in mind that you can now take the car for an ITV up to 30 days before the ITV expires and keep the same anniversary date (the same as in the UK). If you work-out when you're most likely to arrive in Spain in future years and add say 20 days to that date then that would the ideal time for you to get the new ITV done.

Other options are to pay for airport parking with a company that will take your car for it's ITV for you while you're away. If you currently leave your car at home and take a taxi to the airport and back then the airport parking could save you money if you come over several times per year.

I pay a mobile mechanic to service/ check out car/ do any necessary work on it as necessary pre ITV and then he takes it to the ITV for me. Did this in last couple of years when I was away and not in Spain and he did it while I was away and had it waiting for me when I'm back. I guess it might not be the cheapest way to do things but to me worth paying for the convenience....

Thanks for your replies.

I keep the car at Alicante airport when not in Spain and yes I could ask Ecoparking to deal with the ITV. The car is not very old and is serviced by the main VW dealer. I'm not expecting there will be much needed for the ITV for quite a while and fancy the experience of taking it myself.
That said I will probably end up asking Ecoparking to sort it out.

Neil.
