This is what everyone should do every time they return a car it's no good moaning after the event.

I had my car re-ended at a zebra and it has taken me four months fighting to have it repaired due to age and expense but I succeeded in the end. I have been hiring cars since 1st December 2018. Yes I have had the 90cents a day. It works. I yo-yoed between Goldcar and Centauro. I am a devil for the small print which is what you need to understand. Don't expect it high season like from 21st Dec until 2nd Jan 2019 or Easter or summer. That's when I went local for €10 a day. Now that was expensive ... in comparison, ha ha. If anyone wishes to know how I am only too pleased to help.

Yet another stock answer from Goldcar referring to terms and conditions hidden in the depths of their website. They are a disgrace and would not be tolerated in the U.K. Because of their lack of treating customers fairly. Just for future reference if anyone is foolish enough to use them, never pre book their insurance. They will offer you a discount at the desk. Just another example of their inability to treat regular customers fairly. I have lost faith in all airport car hire companies, and I have tried them all over the years.

We never had to produce a receipt, they just look at gauge when we take back..new!

Agreed and in any case a petrol station receipt proves absolutely nothing.

When the staff check a car in they do nothing more than look at the gauge and as long as it appears full that's all they care about because the next customer needs to see it.

BTW hire companies would like you to believe that they do actually top up cars returned less than full and whilst that may be true if there is an on site facility or a petrol station very nearby in many cases, and as has happened to me, they simply note the level and inform the next customer that the car is not full and expect it back with at least the same amount - or more.

From the above the more cynical might conclude that in such cases the opportunity for the levying of a refueling fee when no refueling in fact takes place might, for some operators, prove irresitable to pass up!
