I have read somewhere that if you are driving from the UK through France to Spain, you will need a 2 different IDP's, as France & Spain want different ones.

You probably read it on here. PeterK gave the types and you need a 1968 IDP for France but a 1949 IDP for Spain.

When I say "you will need" then it's purely a guess. Like all things that may or many not happen.

Post Brexit, if you want to drive through France you'll need a 1968 IDP, a stripey top, a beret and string of onions around your neck. A curly mustache isn't mandatory, but is preferred by many of the local gendarmerie. Female passengers should wear French maid outfits at all times, regardless of whether Brexit happens or not.
A breathalyzer is no longer required, and a few bottles of red wine are handy to oil the wheels of Anglo-French relations in case you're stopped on a minor technicality.
Carrying a day-glo jacket is strictly forbidden!

Pete.
