If you're using a UK licence then yes you will need an IDP.

Spain
You will not need an IDP for visits up to 9 months after the date the UK leaves the EU. Then you will not need an IDP for visits up to 6 months, if you have either a UK photocard or UK paper driving licence.

You will need a 1949 IDP for longer visits.

If I have interpreted the information I have just read correctly, then yesterday (8th Oct 2019) the CAB Spain posted a notification about the DGT's instruction on the need for an International driving permit in the even of no-deal. Contrary to the Spanish Royal Decree from earlier in the year, the DGT is now saying that UK drivers using a UK driving license who don't yet have residencia by 31st Oct 2019 will need an IDP as from 1st November 2019, this effectively would remove the 9 month grace period after a no-deal exit previously stated.
Link to the CAB's information on it is here...

I doubt Spain's policies on the matter will be much influenced by what a UK website says, even a government one. They struggle to agree between themselves for gods sake!

In any case this latest info (yet to be officially confirmed BTW) has only very recently been published so the advice on the UK website has to be viewed in that context.

Whether it's true or not though IMO if you live here but are still using a UK licence - which you're going to have to exchange sooner or later anyway - then you'd be utterly bonkers to continue to sit on your hands and do nothing when there is even the possibility that consequence of a no deal Brexit crash out in just 3 weeks time could be an immediate disqualification from driving until you pass a Spanish driving test!

Don't think you'll get away with keeping stum because if it did come to that I can easily foresee insurance companies requiring you to demonstrate that you still hold a valid licence and cancelling your cover if you can't.

In case you didn't know obtaining an IDP to accompany a UK licence requires your personal presence, you cannot do it remotely or online.

Painting a black picture, maybe, but in these turbulent and uncertain times hoping for the best whilst preparing for the worst surely has to be the wise mans strategy.

The original enquiry said "I am non-resident and own my spanish car" so talk if changing UK licences for Spanish ones isn't relevant in this situation.
The UK government website and the Spanish DGT website both agree that an IDP will not be needed during the first 9 months after BREXIT:

UK Government website:
You will not need an IDP for visits up to 9 months after the date the UK leaves the EU
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/driving-in- ... ng-permits

DGT Website:
If the BREXIT takes place , the United Kingdom will cease to belong to the European Union, so all traffic agreements within the EU will no longer be valid for citizens of the United Kingdom. Among other things, this means that the permits from the United Kingdom will only be valid for driving in Spain during the first 9 months after BREXIT, provided they are in force.

I think the "provided they are in force" ("siempre que estén en vigor" in Spanish) probably means that the licence needs to remain valid during this period. If your UK licence expires than it can no longer be used either in Spain or the UK.
https://sede-org.dgt.gob.es/sede-electr ... dex.shtml#

I tend to maintain an up-to-date 1949 IDP anyway as I need it for driving in Thailand, but if I didn't already have one then I wouldn't be rushing out and blowing the princely sum of £5.50 on one, as it wont be needed in Spain for at least the first 9 months after BREXIT.

I'm still hoping that the EU will refuse an extension and Boris will force parliament into withdrawing Article 50, at which point BREXIT will be dead in the water and we can all get back to life as normal ;)
