Thankyou. Was beginning to lose the will to live... Thinking about the implications of a no deal Brexit has that effect...

But as a Spanish resident with a Spanish licence can I drive my own UK registered car in the UK???? :?

Yes you can. Where your licence is issued has no bearing on that, provided that both countries recognise the licence or you have an IDP if they don't.

The important bit is your country of residence and the country of registration of your vehicle.

Spanish resident can:
Drive Spanish registered car in Spain
Drive UK registered car in UK
Drive a Spanish registered car in UK
but CAN'T drive UK registered car in Spain

UK resident can:
Drive UK registered car in UK
Drive Spanish registered car in Spain
Drive a UK Registered car in Spain
but CAN'T drive Spanish registered car in UK

Put simply, when you're in your country of residence, you can't drive a foreign registered car.

Thanks Pete, succinctly put.

"as a Spanish resident with a Spanish licence can I drive my own UK registered car in the UK????"

The proviso being that the car is fully UK road legal and that includes insurance provided by a member of the UK's MIB.

A further little known point is that's it's illegal for a Spanish resident to sell, lend, or hire, a foreign registered car to another resident.

Technically that means if you are still driving a UK regged car in your name you cannot legitimately permit your wife/husband/partner etc. to drive it.

In relation to that does anyone have experience on obtaining ongoing insurance on a UK Reg car, in the UK, permanently being kept at its owner's UK address, being driven in the UK only by its owner/ driver when visiting the UK but its owner / driver now formally a Spanish resident? Have heard it could be problematic. It is essentially the flip side of having a second home in Spain, never been any problem insuring car in Spain as a non resident but now looking at the flipped situation in UK. Second home in UK, car in UK etc. ? Will I need to go to a specialist broker? Surely the UK can cope with what must be a relatively common situation.
