Mileage on imported car from France
Mileage on imported car from France
by nigieboy » Wed Mar 08, 2023 11:19 pm
I visited a car sales today and looked at a vehicle that had supposedly done ...LHD and imported from France.I was advised on its mileage and asked to see the log book and service history to be told there wasn't one.When the engine turned on there was a 0km on the dash! I was informed it had been reset- to zero prior to being registeredin Spain...surely this isn't correct?

They seem to get away with anything Nigel. I’ve been looking for a car for a few weeks now and it’s just shocking seeing some of the crap that’s on offer! No service book stamps or maintenance receipts, illegal tyres etc;
You are right to be extremely wary, I’m also told that many of the cars offered by these dealers are imported from Eastern Europe. Most certainly without any service history or any means of establishing the ‘actual’ mileage or even the legal owner!

Run away and don't even consider for a second to buy such a car.

There was a big company had its bank frozen and shut down for clocking cars out here a few years back, I know a couple of people who are still waiting for money back due to buying a car which was advertised with low mileage but found to be a lot higher mileage. At least put the name of the company so it will help other people not to buy from them.
I’ve never heard so much rubbish having to set mileage to Zero for registration purposes!!!

I looked at buying a car last year, spent week after week going place to place because nothing seemed to be genuine or worth what they were asking for it. I just gave up. I couldn't bring myself to part with what seemed a very excessive amount of money, for such scrappy vehicles with spaceship mileages. if you do decide to buy, just be aware there are many friendly looking smiling faces that will tell you what you want to hear, and gladly take your money. Then for years after, you have to face mechanics for repairs, who can spot a tourist mile off. Save your money, and either buy a brand new budget priced car with all the legal manufacturers warranties, or don't bother. We drive across each time, and will continue to do so. English car, English repairs, English insurance and breakdown, no brainer. Good luck in what you decide for yourself.

OP can't put the name of the company, as forum rules won't allow it - as it might negatively affect their trade.
That's what I was told, anyway.
