Why not drive over yourself? you can take as long as you like and visit all kinds of interesting places on the way.

I hate the idea of ever renting a car and suffering the clauses and extra costs. So We’ve driven over loads of times, Lincolnshire to dover Calais to Torrevieja, and return. I see u say u don’t travel well, so how about an overnight ferry Plymouth to Santander? Bring your own car, drive from Santander, approx 8 hours, beauty is you can stop as many times a you like. Just a thought.

I know it’s always a personal choice, but if I had the option of a nice steady trouble free car journey or sitting on a plane with 250 un-masked potential Covid carriers, I know what I’d choose. As I say, personal choices.

You can do Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth or Plymouth to Bilbao or Santander. Cost for car and 2 passengers varies depending on season but averages around £300 - £400 plus cost of cabin, approximately £120. Add fuel cost and maybe overnight hotel stop in Spain.

We’ve done this trip many times and total cost varies from winter time £500 to £800 in July. Fares do vary quite a bit depending on the time of year. You could also ask on this forum for any Club Voyage members to share their discount code with you. That saves you 10% on the fare, it’s a £30 to £40 saving so well worth asking. Discount is on the fare only, not the cabin cost!

Use the channel tunnel. 1/2 an hour and you are in France. Cost about £75 per car not per person. 1363 miles if you avoid tolls or 1412 miles on toll roads. Calculate cost using your cars mpg. Road tolls will vary from around €80 euros to €110 depending on your chosen route. (Michelin price guard)
