New 30kmh road signs in Dona Pepa

New 30kmh road signs in Dona Pepa

Did anyone notice the change of the speed safety limits now reduced in Calle Antonio, Dona Pepa?
Maybe the speed merchants who abuse the old 40kmh, if they ever pay attention to notice them, that is, will make an effort to drive more carefully and look out for the new speed detection cameras in the trees and the drones watching some of them.

A previous post talking about this. Speed limits on single two way urban roads in Spain were reduced to 30kpm from May 11th.

I put this up to explain the new restrictions.

Yes my learned friend Marcliff. I have been away for a couple of days and they have only been changed recently I am sure.
I don't think a lot of drivers have even noticed them changed and I know what you said about May 11th. Certainly nobody has slowed up their great haste to get somewhere all the time, since May 11th or now that there have been speed limit signs changed. I read you are liable to lower limits even if the law has changed as you graphically pointed out.
Better not mention those already in place at 50kmh on the way to Torrevieja

It really doesn’t matter what speed limits are posted, very few drivers bother with them anyway! If the majority ignore current limits, why would you think they would adhere to new, even lower limits?

Drive at 50kph in a 50kph limit and your subjected to flashing headlights, blasts of the horn and invariably, overtaken at very high speed with the compulsory sideways dirty look!

I know I’m generalising and there are of course exceptions but in the main, the driving in Spain is just awful!!

Some of the stinging fines I have heard about will deffo make me comply. But if police cease to enforce then I, along with others, will be less compliant,

Like you, I’ll comply. Ignoring laws, that people think ‘stupid’, is the thin end of the anarchy wedge. In my opinion.

Its got worse and I would say that very few are doing less the 50-60kmh, let alone the 30kmh or even the old 40kmh.
The noise and pollution they kick out is bewildering. Why are so many drivers hell bent on speeding in a built up area and chasing the vehicle in front, has the pandemic made it worse? Drive safely and with due care, trust me there is no way you could stop as proven a few months back as a car shot around the roundabout and hit a parked car. Crossing legally with a sign present doesn't deter most of these speedsters and we are not talking youngsters. Has Spain recorded so many accidents that caused the lowering of speed limits because the solution is not working.

I have found that over the years, whether a vehicle is travelling at 20 kph or 70 kph the best way to avoid getting knocked down is not to walk out into the road without looking both ways in the first damn place. People on phones seem to be the worst offenders. :text-lol: :text-lol:

I don't think the police have the resources around here to enforce them, and as they make drivers more frustrated when behind a compliant car it makes prangs much more likely, not less.

The other day I was followed by a local police car, so tried to keep within the 30 limit, but occasionally went a little over. The police car kept flashing me with his indicators and headlights, so I thought he wanted me to stop and pulled in. He just went past and ignored me. He wasn't blue lighting or anything, he was just getting frustrated being slowed down.

I can hardly remember any serious accidents around Quesada in the 19 years I have been here. I think all the parking on the yellow lines in the centre of Quesada is more of a problem, but the police say they haven't the resources to deal with it.

If the government want to make the roads safer, then fine people for not using indicators on roundabouts and cyclists for breaking their rules. Don't bring quiet roads down to a crawl.
