Problem buying Spanish car

I bought a Spanish car in November.

The seller said the price included the cost of transfer and that he would arrange it all.

A week later he messaged me on whatsapp to say that he was unable to process it as when he entered my NIE in the online form, it showed "No Es Valido". He asked me to sort it out so he can complete the transfer. He sent me a screenshot of the problem, it 100% said that.

I went into the Nacional Policia in Orihuela yesterday and told them about it, showed them the logbook still in the seller's name, and explained the problem with the NIE showing as not valid. He then put the NIE on the computer at his desk and he said he could see it and that there was nothing unusual about it, and that he did not know what to say or advise.

Does anyone have any idea who I should go to about this?

I imagine the road tax would have been due on 1st January, so I want to make sure that I pay it to avoid any issues, and I also want the logbook in my name and address. In theory the seller still owns it.....

No, he is using mine, which is correct. I blacked it out in the screenshot, but it is 100% accurate.

Sorry, I follow you now.

He has his own NIF/NIE at the top, there doesnt seem to be any warning about that. Its where he has input mine that shows the invalid status.

I literally signed on at the Padron yesterday as we moved, and there was no issue there, I have my Padron certificate. I would have thought if there was a problem, it would have arose there too.

I have no idea who to contact about it, is it some other Police, some office somewhere else, Im clueless and cannot, despite searching for hours, find a reference anywhere to anyone else experiencing similar online.

No, it starts with Y and ends with G. I got it in 2011.

It was obtained in Fuerteventura. Maybe they have some different letters. When I looked at a guide online, there does not seem to be any mention of specific letters at the end, only for the start.

A few of my club members have NIE's starting with Y, three of them end in L, G and D
