Re-Registering UK Car To Spanish Plates

Hello all,

Looking for help and someone who can re-register my UK car onto Spanish plates.

Have owned the car longer than 6 months, it has a current MOT & UK Insurance - based on 90 day allowance.

The car is a 2013 Ford Galaxy

Right Move in Quesada by the white municipal town hall will be able to do it for you.4

However, I think your are reading the rules wrongly. You may only drive a UK registered car in Spain for up to 6 months as a tourist.

If you are moving to Spain as a resident or as a business then you must apply to register the car within 30 days of arrival and you have up to 60 days to register it. If you see Right Move they will be able to talk you through it

According to the Spanish Road Traffic and Vehicle Safety Act (LSV), foreign vehicles must be registered in Spain under certain conditions. The time frame for changing your plates to Spanish ones depends on whether you’re a resident. Failing to register your vehicle within these deadlines could result in a fine of €500 to €1,500, as stated in the LSV penalties regime.

What you need to know about foreign-plated car registration in Spain
If you're a foreign citizen driving a car with foreign plates, you can do so in Spain for up to six consecutive months. After 183 days, Spain considers it your habitual residence, and you must register your vehicle.
If you're a resident of Spain or have a business here, you must register your car within 30 days.
If you're moving to Spain and bringing a vehicle with you, you have up to 60 days to register it.

Don’t know if Rightmove could help. Best look back at previous posts or facebook etc as there are a couple of companies that specialise in this. You will need to change your headlights,fog lights,reversing lights,etc. and still have a rhd car, which is not easy for car park, toll booth machines. When we inquired about our 7 seater 6 years ago it was going to cost us around 3000€ and might still fail as it had previously been a Japanese grey import into the UK. So our son flew over and drove it back and sold it for us and we bought a car here. Your best bet may be to sell it back in the UK or to somebody who is returning to the UK and buy a Spanish car,unless that car is special to you.

Try Leigh at https://www.spanish-number-plates.com/ . You can get advice & a no obligation quote before deciding whether it is worth it. A couple of things to consider: you may need the fog light moving to the other side of the car, you may need a new set of LHD headlights, you also may need a COC (certificate of conformity).
