Reliable mechanic/workshop to look at issue on Van
Reliable mechanic/workshop to look at issue on Van
by ScottCummings » Tue Mar 19, 2024 9:57 am
Morning, last week we drove about 2000 miles down from Scotland with no issues in our 2014 Vauxhall Vivaro van. The van has been parked up for a few days and now shows a 'CHECK INJECTION SYSTEM' warning message.
It had a service before we left and it still starts/drives as normal with no juttering but obviously needs looking at before our journey back in a few weeks.
Can anyone recommended a decent honest garage locally. Thanks

I had the same message on my Vivaro, but you will get that message for many faults on the fuel system. With mine, turns out the injection system fuel supply was drawing air somewhere. Under the bonnet there is a clear fuel line that connects to the injectors. You could see air bubbles in the line. Take a look at yours, see if it's the same fault as I've heard of others having the same issue. It drove fine and never missed a beat. Vauxhall couldn't find it and suggested changing every component from the tank to the injectors at the not inconsiderable cost of £3,500. I just lived with it as it only happened intermittently, until I changed the van.

Hi Scott,
I use the lad at Autolube, just behind Consum near Tescos / Food Factory, when was the last time you had the fuel filter replaced ?, if there is a lot of water content in the fuel you got, it won't do it any good, what fuel did you put in on the way down ?, If used supermarket fuel in my Mondeo ST, it used to run rough & flash up codes on the dash, I have put decent fuel in since, and it never missed a beat, a few Euros per litre is cheaper than a set of Injectors ?, have a safe trip back

Thanks for the reply. It had a 100k service just before we left including fuel filter. Unfortunately I did use cheap diesel on the way down and have since read about the potential issues of this. I've since filled with premium and need to give it a good run out to see if that fixes the issue. As I said it runs and starts as normal and MPGs are about the same. I did disconnect the battery for a while to see if that reset, but no joy.

Where do you get the idea that cheaper fuel is inferior? Surely all fuel comes from the same refineries and is delivered to various brand petrol stations?
Driving well over a million miles earning a living in both diesel and petrol cars. I generally used the cheapest fuel I could find wherever I was in the UK at the time. Never had a single issue with fuel quality.

I tend to agree with PaulM above. In my younger days and loaded out of refineries from general storage of whatever product as far as I know.
The problem of water or general crap in diesel is more likely to come from the retailer's storage.
