UK Spanish Cars Calpe

UK Spanish Cars Calpe

Postby apricorncup17 » Fri Feb 21, 2020 11:43 am

Has anyone had any dealings with this company? I am debating buying a Spanish vehicle, but am a bit put off by the high price of some older vehicles and also the very high mileage / or lower mileage cars with a premium price. These seem to have a fair choice and a better price / mileage by comparison. Alternative, is to bring a UK vehicle and at a better price and mileage.

Used cars in Spain keep their value much more than UK ones. They don't have the big company fleets which are sold off after a while over here.
To repeat, all well and good whilst selling a car but not so good when you are buying one.

To bring a car from UK will cost around 1000 euro to have it modified for LHD and the registration tax. You will then have a fairly unsellable RHD car over here (yes, you can get used to the restricted view when overtaking, always having a passenger if you're using a car park or a toll booth etc) which nobody really wants.

Work out if the used car here is similar in price once you've added the conversion costs on to the one from UK.

The registration tax (not the same as import duty) is based on the CO2 emissions of the car and ranges from 0% (electric car with no CO2) up to 14% for a gas guzzler at over 200 gms per 100km of CO2. The value of the car is based on the prices trafico hold for that vehicle. So a car worth, according to them, 20,000 euro and an average CO2 of 120gms to 160gms per 100km would attract a registration fee of 4.75% plus the cost of new headlights etc.

Not used (or even heard of ) that particular company but I think you'll find they are all a much of a muchness.

Thanks for your advice. There’s also a small number of UK companies that get Spanish registered cars in on a “regular basis”, so that might also be an option, plus they say they do all the appropriate paperwork, so it’s all about which way to go a bit further down the track, cheers.

Please keep this thread updated on that front.

I have often looked at this route but I cannot see how you get the car from the UK garage to the ferry port/Channel Tunnel unless you pay for it to be taken by trailer?! This question when raised before has been overlooked and I can only assume the answer is "break the law" in reality.

The steps necessary as a buyer of a Spanish car also seem to be very hard to comply with if buying one in the UK from a UK garage, namely:-

After the sales contract has been signed by both parties and the vehicle has been handed over, the buyer will then have 15 days to provide the seller with a copy of the new Permiso de Circulación logbook, which will prove that ownership has infact changed hands.
It will be the buyers responsibility to register themselves as the new owners of the vehicle. To do this they will need to make an appointment at the at the Jefatura de Tráfico office and provide the following documentation:-
  • Sales contract signed by both parties - Download an example here or here.
  • Application Form - Solicitud Cambio de Titularidad del Vehículo (Downloaded from DGT website here)
  • Original Permiso de Circulación (Log book) and ITV/MOT (Inspección Técnica de Vehículos) if the vehicle is over 4 years of age.
  • The previous years IVTM road tax receipt (Impuesto de Vehículos de Tracción Mecánica)
  • Photocopy of the buyer's and seller's ID
Once you have all of these documents you will need to make an appointment at your local Jefatura de Tráfico (Provincial Traffic Office) within 30 days. To do this you will need to call 060.
Prior to attending your appointment at the traffic office, you will need to go to the local tax office (Hacienda) to pay the transfer tax (Modelo forms 620/621) which is around 4% of the official/fiscal value of the vehicle. You can download the form at https://www.agenciatributaria.es/AEAT.internet/en_gb/GC12/informacion.shtml
When the transfer tax has been paid, you will need to attend your appointment at the Jefatura de Tráfico office and pay a fee and also provide them with the receipt/proof that the transfer tax has been paid. You will then need to present the official with the rest of your documentation listed in the buyers section above.

the banks sell off there leasing fleets, usualy back to the dealers, sometimes its best to lease in reality your just paying the depreciation , , and the car hire companys do sell vehicles off ,so I believe from some posts on here,
