V16 Yet Again

V16 Yet Again

Postby marcliff » Tue Mar 24, 2026 1:43 pm

Going to the airport at the crack of dawn this morning, a very busy A7. Just after Elche, a car had broken down and on the hard shoulder. V16 light flashing away but you couldn't see it until virtually on top of it. No warning on the overhead gantries and no warning given on my GPS.

A bit further on, just before the airport turning, traffic suddenly very slow and 4 way flashers coming on all over the place. Another broken down car on the side with V16 light flashing and, again, couldn't see it until virtually on top of it and no warnings on gantries or on my GPS.

Makes you wonder if these things are actually working like they are supposed to or just another white elephant. I suppose the sun being so low in the sky at that time of morning (just after 7am at Elche) and blinding would have negated the actual flash but neither were visible from even a short distance.

We drove from the airport last night at about 9:45pm to algorfa and no lights at all on the a7! Was very dark and hard to see my husband kept putting full beam on when safe to do so. Never known it to not be lit at all. Not sure if this is an electric saving measure?

Most motorways everywhere turn the lights off except at junctions. Same in UK as well. All dark until a major junction comes up and, even then, they rely more on cat's eyes but do include street lighting at those points.

Ah…..this reminds me. We are coming back to Spain next week for the first time since these were introduced. Are they compulsory now? I thought I had read that they weren’t all approved and maybe weren’t 100% legal with EU Regulations. If they are compulsory where is the best place to buy a fully compliant one?

Yes they are compulsory and can now be fined if you don’t have in your vehicle.
They sell them in Carrefour
Happy in the sun.

All the V16 lights are very much the same and the light emission is very poor on all the ones I have looked at
I did buy the one from Carrefour and it is on the approved list but if nneded I will still be using the Triangles as well
