Loud music in restaurants
Loud music in restaurants

If you found a quiet restaurant where there was either no music played, or just a very gentle, low volume orchestral music in the background - would that be a huge selling point? So many of us have hearing problems these days, and even those who haven't complain of having to battle with music as well as other diners talking when they want to chat, and it makes going to a restaurant an ordeal. In fact there are several that have become no-go areas in spite of serving wonderful food. If I wanted to listen to screeching singers, (and I'd rather stick pins in my eyes) I could do that at home!

I hate having to shout to have a conversation. Won't go to places like that. Nice music is much better when not played so loud. Some entertainers think they have to be on top volume! Not so.

I would never go anywhere that had a singer or entertainer anyway - they always seem to be loud enough to fill t he Albert Hall! My complaint is with restaurants that play music at lunch time or in the evenings, when you just want to chat to your friends without shouting. I'm sure we would go out twice as often if we could be assured of a peaceful evening. As it is we prefer having friends over or going their homes to eat. Since asking this question in several place, not one person has responded that they like to be deafened while eating out!

Unfortunately for you entertainment brings the punters in always does just the way it is . If you don't offer entertainment look forward to shutting down just look around at the moment and see what's happening.

We may understand it, but we don't have to suffer it...
If we don't like it we move on.. the same with bad service and bad food...
Life is too short to sit there a be miserable..

I think you are describing bars that serve meals whereas, the OP was talking of restaurants.

Yes, I am talking about mostly lunchtimes in restaurants. I totally accept that some people like live entertainment in the evenings and bars depend on that business. But when you can't hear your companions over Whitney Houston screaming, and I've seen other people complain as well - you know the owner has not realised many people don't like their choice of music - and indeed don't want any music at lunchtime. Last week we had cream teas at a charity do in a local restaurant. About 50 people chatting quietly and then the owners put on loud music. There were remonstrations from a number of people and it was turned down a bit. But very quickly people began to leave.
