Medio Año Festera 10th & 11th Feb

Postby Martin the artist » Wed Jan 24, 2024 11:22 am

The weekend of 10 and 11 February Rojales will again celebrate the Half Year.

On Saturday from 10 to 12:00h at the Thursday market ground, there will be tapas & beer for 2.50€ followed by a charanga into town.
At 16:00 p.m.in the Malecón del Soto, the afternoon Festero 2024 with live music from Aire Puro, La Hornet and Dj Pskramos.

On Sunday 12:00, the taking of the Bridge.
The two sides, Moors and Christians, will leave the market ground to meet at the Charles III Bridge and fight dialectically for its possession. (Words not guns)

Thanks Martin
I’ve not been to the half year fiesta so wondering how it compares to the full fiesta. Thinking in particular of the Sunday as we have visitors over. Any idea how long the procession takes from start to finish? I’m obviously not expecting it to be anything as large or as extravagant as the main Moors and Christians which I’ve seen many times, but would like our visitors to have a glimpse of costumes etc

Generally only a short procession but then most of the action is on the bridge itself with the taking of it lasting around 20/30 mins
The moors enter from one side of the bridge & the Christians from the other and have a half hearted skirmish & lots of talk until they all agree that bridges aren't meant to separate people but to bring them together.
So with the new camaraderie everyone goes to the Malecon del Soto - virtually adjacent - to celebrate and they have a little dance show on the stage there.
