Moors & Christians 2023

Moors & Christians 2023

Postby Quesadamum » Wed Jan 11, 2023 6:07 pm

Hello everyone,
Does anyone know when the Moors & Christians parade is in Rojales this year ( 2023)?
We accidentally visited when it was on a few years ago & would like to return with friends this year .
Thanks in advance

Exact dates won’t be announced until nearer the time, but if I remember rightly then Rojales celebrate their fiesta which runs straight into Moors and Christians. Fiesta starts approx first weekend of June. So those particular battles and parades will be end of June, beg of July .Again from memory I think Rojales have one of the shortest M&C parades in the area, but definitely has the best and craziest Chupinazo.

Thank you so much. I had no idea the fiesta and M&C parades were linked. We must have been in Rojales 2018 for the parades and the costumes were amazing & went on for hours. I’ve never seen the Chupinazo either so would love to know when that is. Where should I look to find the dates when published?

Keep looking on here , as Martin the Artist is our resident Events announcer.

If you are on Facebook, follow the ayuntamiento and nearer the time there are usually posters up everywhere to announce the programme is available to pick up - but again Martin is usually kind enough to put the dates and times on here.
Rojales is quite a small parade - Guardamar is much longer.

If you are visiting the end July both Benijofar and Guardamar have Moors & Christians again information always published on ayuntamiento Facebook pages.
If you’re not on Facebook they also have websites, but they’re not as quick as publishing the information on the conventional websites.
July is one whole month of fiestas, I think we spent every single day or evening at some sort of local celebration as well as those listed above try Algorfa, Los Montesinos, Almoradi etc etc.

Don’t forget February is Carnival time!

The moors & Christlan parades are the culmination of a month of fiestas in honour of the town's patron Saint. San Pedro, whose day is June 29th & is a Thursday this year.
So the parades would be the next Saturday & Sunday - i.e. July 1st & 2nd

The Chupinazo this year will probably be June 11th from around 11.30am, when anyone can take part in a large water battle - they even pass out free water pistols - and they suggest you come in swimwear.

Then the mayor arrives and hands out free traditional straw sunhats & there is a stall giving out free beer!

The mayor then goes onto the balcony of the museum and lights the 'chupinazo' - or large rocket . and people fire confetti canons, the music pumps up and the mayor throws out some giant beach balls.

When things quieten down a bit, people progress to the river bank to watch a grand 'mascleta' - daytime fireworks - at 2pm which is set off opposite in the Malecon del Soto park, and the fiestas are officially open.

Thank you SO much. I can’t believe I never knew any of this! unfortunately I can’t make early June this year but will definitely make a point next year of seeing it.
Will hopefully make the parades as we’re likely to be here end June to end July.
Thank you again x
