Ribbon race - POSTPONED until Friday 12th! due to rain

Valencia day (holiday) is 9th October and on the Malecon del Soto they will be holding the ribbon race from 6.30pm when any women can participate of any age) that so wish, and need to register (free) in the information office of the townhall of Rojales.
Registration deadline is until Friday October 5th and the city hall will then provide free sash for each participant.

On the day, the women march in wearing their sashes and sit in the place of honour.

Then participating men take it in turns to ride a bicycle holding a small spear and try to snare a ribbon hanging down from a frame above the road.
If they are successful, the speared ribbon is then swapped for the corresponding woman's sash who gives the man a kiss and he gives her a bunch of flowers.
Men who wish to participate (of any age) just present themselves on day of the race before the start of the act.

Children will have to provide their own bikes.

The bike is provided for adults.
