Where to go with children on Halloween

Where to go with children on Halloween

Postby ros4111 » Wed Oct 31, 2018 10:22 am

Hello:

I know Halloween is most a imported fiesta from USA but I was thinking that English and another country people would enjoy to see children arround their houses.

2 years ago I went with 4 girs (from 6 to 8 years) all
disguised

to some houses in Benimar asking "Trick or Treat". I was surprise of the response about how unlucky they were. Everyone just say no, few didnt want to open the door and close the blind when they say us.

I didnt expect that everyone was going to offer candy, but I was expecting everyone to say something nice to a group of excited girls. For sure we bother them and I felt like a criminal knoking on their house at 5 am.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

It's too late now, but in La Florida they close the roads and all the kids parade around in fancy dress, with clowns, people on stilts etc. They also lay on a bunch of bouncy castles.

Been here now for some 15 years. Never had anyone coming round on Halloween.
We got some sweeties (we don't do candy, by the way) in for the first couple of years but ended up scoffing it ourselves.
Never bothered since and never needed it.
And then you come up with this post and tempt fate.
Had 6 of them round this evening (not Brits or Spanish) and we didn't have any treats for them. Gave them my loose change which sort of ran out after the first four had been. The next two lots didn't seem overly impressed when I put an apple in their bags (or collection boxes made to look like pumpkins).

Next year we'll have a bag of those Haribo treats and I bet no one comes round.
Should have made the toffee onions and chocolate covered sprouts to make sure they don't come round next year.
Where my Mum lived in UK it was more like demanding money with menaces. Older kids virtually demanding pounds for their bags or the doors got covered in eggs.

These ones tonight were all young, though. From about 2 up to 7 and had made the effort with the costumes although the 2 year old looked more terrified of me when I put the light on.

Marcliff sort of hit the nail on the head in our case. When we (and probably the majority of older people on here) were growing up, trick or treat and knocking on people's doors was unheard of.

When our kids were small, they used to go round a few neighbours trick or treating and we used to keep small packets of sweets for those that knocked. But, when they became teenagers in the late 80's/early 90's the kids around us had all become teenagers too, and we became subjected to eggs and flour both in our front porch and all over the car windscreen. After a couple of years of that, we just bolted the front door, turned out the lights in the front of the house and shut ourselves in the kitchen/conservatory at the back and crossed our fingers.

I think this is fairly typical of Halloween in the UK which is why so many of our generation nowadays just hide away from it. Where we are in Quesada, we don't have any visitors and I do hope it stays that way here in Spain.
