easy jet

Just in case some are not aware,easy jet have reduced there cabin luggage size,from 56x45x25cm to 50x40x20 cm this starts on the 2nd of July,hate to think of all the money they will make from charging people extra,like they do when new rules come in.

That is very crafty of Easy Jet reducing their cabin baggage allowance just before the height of Summer. So many people will be caught out! It's about £50 to put an oversize / overweight cabin case into the hold on most airlines.

I have checked and Argos 'cabin size' cases range in size from Size H56, W35, D23cm.

Size H56, W35, D25cm and Size H46, W34, D19cm.

John Lewis have some smaller cabin cases in their range but they also have this one which would be 2mm over the size for Easy Jet : H50 x W40 x D22cm

'Antler' have a cabin baggage allowance chart on their website and it appears that when the change comes about Easy Jet will have one of the smallest cabin bag size allowances - (The chart doesn't show the Easy Jet change yet but is updated regularly so should do soon.)

I know it says always 'check with your airline' but sadly there are going to be people caught out this Summer.

i am sure they know lots of people will be caught out,just some extra cash for them,that is why i thought i would mention it.

Thanks for clarifying the situation guapa - It seems to be a misunderstanding. Although I'm sure most of us would rather take a 'guaranteed' cabin size bag if possible, as not having to wait by the carousel for hold luggage is IMO a definite advantage!

All credit to Easy Jet for finding a solution to an ever increasing problem. We fly with Monarch and the last year or so they have been asking for volunteers to place their cabin cases in the hold for free on 'full' flights. It seems that more people are using cabin bags, either so they don't have to pay for a hold suitcase or to carry extra 'free' luggage. This option with Easy Jet actually appears to be a good idea. I would rather carry a smaller bag than have it in the hold but others may not mind. It takes away the' asking for volunteers' problem from the airline staff when the flight is full.
We always carry the smallest size cabin bag anyway to save being caught out with different airlines but some people seem to carry quite large cases in comparison.

Spoke to Easyjet yesterday if you are at the back of the Queue then you might have to put larger bag in hold if you are up front no problem.

We always carry padlocks & a very lightweight fold up bag in our cabin cases for just that reason. Then we can just carry laptop, medications and other small valuables if the case has to go quickly in the hold.

It is slways hard to find space in the lockers but we had a different problem last time. We flew to prestwick last month on a full flight and had to put our small case in the locker above 3 rows forward of where our seat was. A gentleman took our case in error and by the time we realised he was off the plane. We caught him up but as the bag had our passports, car and house keys it could have been a disaster if he had gone through passport control. We will always take one bag now which will fit under the seat.

Same thing almost happened to me. My case and what I now know was an identical case, were side by side in the locker a few rows away in front of where we were sitting and I watched a lady grab what I thought (?) was my case. I shouted out politely.. 'Excuse me, could you please check that you have the correct case?' and her daughter shouted in such an unnecessarily nasty tone, without even looking at the case, saying 'Do you mind, my mother knows her own case'! I tried to explain that mine was exactly the same but they just turned their backs and got off the plane.

There were no identifying marks or labels on both the cases and it was just lucky that she had grabbed her own case, as it wasn't until about 5 minutes later after the lady and her daughter had hurried off, that I was able to check that the case still in the locker was mine. I hope it happens to them one day and they know what it feels like!

Since regularly taking just hand luggage I didn't think at the time that there was any need to label or put straps on a cabin case for identity, as we always do on hold luggage, but I do now - On each handle now I tie a bright coloured ribbon and put identity tags on too. I don't want to go through that again!

I never envisaged that this could happen but when you are a few rows back it is very difficult to stop someone mistakenly taking your case, as you found out Laura.
