Parking for vans to collect people from airport?

Parking for vans to collect people from airport?

Postby calamitykay » Mon Jan 19, 2015 6:57 pm

Hi there,
We have family coming out to see us next month and so have done a few dummy runs to the airport to make sure we know the way - the only problem we have found so far is that the public parking has height restrictions and so our van cannot go under this barrier.
Can anyone tell me where we can park when we go to collect / meet our visitors please?
Many thanks
CK

Hi CK,
Obviously the 'safer' option of the car park is not an option for you so I suggest that you do not arrive at the airport until around 15-20 minutes after the plane has landed. Instuct your family to come out through the arrivals exit then make their way up to the departures lounge & exit through the main doors there. There is a Costa coffee shop outside to use as a landmark/meeting point. If you do arrive a few minutes before them you will have a bit more time before you start to feel threatened by police or other officials, but do not leave the van unattended. Much safer to go round again. Only my opinion but hope it helps. Others may know other options.

Hi

We also ask our relations to pop into Costa Coffee and phone us from there, we then leave the house and collect them, afterall its only around 20-30 mins wait and they can sit and enjoy a coffee whilst waiting, then you wont get any hassle.

That's the best idea! We ask our family to text us when they land and we leave our home in Quesada then as, even with hand luggage, they are usually just coming out of Arrivals when we get there. If people have luggage it takes even longer to get through.

Just be aware...at around 4 euros a cup, if you get delayed or there's a few of them they'll probably spend all of their holiday money paying the bill !!

Our adult kids don't drink coffee or tea anyway, but as they come out of arrivals we say to wait on the left hand side, just past the coffee bar, after coming through and there are some seats there. However, so far, even with just hand luggage they are usually only just coming through as we get there.

We always ask them to text any delays from the UK airport which helps us to calculate and then we use the on-line flight details which generally shows if the plane is on route and the ETA.

By the way, the Alicante Airport on-line flight details for the last few years have been so out of touch with reality (hopefully they will get better) but we try to only use the UK airport online information now to work out what's happening both ways.

Hiya Jan,
I use one of the flight tracker sites from Google & watch the plane as it approaches Spanish airspace. It gives up to date info on expected arrival time then I set off in good time.
