Rescue Flights Back to London!

Rescue Flights Back to London!

Postby jorel » Mon Apr 06, 2020 10:20 am

Hi
I have been searching UK government sites for rescue flights back to London for a couple of friends of mine. Does anyone know if there are any or likely to be any in the near future please?

Stay home and stay safe everyone.

I would contact the British Embassy in Alicante. I think they will probably wait until they have enough people wanting to return to the UK before they ask the government to arrange a rescue flight.

The Governmemt will probably ask why are they still here! There has been hundreds of rescue flights over the past few weeks, but these have I believe now stopped as they were no longer needed.
The question will likely be, why did they not request a return earlier when flights were available.

The rescue flights were mainly for the package holiday bookings and firms like TUI and Jet2 sent planes to get their customers who had been booked into hotels out of the country. Those who travelled to their holiday homes were not included and only a small amount of flights were made available, generally full within a couple of hours of being announced.

I know a couple that is desperate to get back to UK and have had 4 flights cancelled at pretty short notice and go on to the website on a daily basis only to see flights fully booked after a very short time.

For example, Vueling put on an extra flight last Saturday which they announce on Friday. One hour after it was announced all seats were full and I believe only a third of the seats are being made available for booking. The previous 2 flights were also solidly booked within a very short space of time.

Pretty sure the couple I know aren't the only ones and there are probably quite a few holiday owners or privately rented tourists still stuck here.

Thank you jpeg. I have told them of the flight on Saturday but it means 20 something hours overnight at Barcelona airport and they are getting on a bit.
I've also told them the option of the train.

they should look at the option of the train to Paris then Eurostar to London if they are pensioners there are some very cheap fares
no need for the long layover at Barcelona you can rearrange the flight from Alicante

If you look on skscanner for flights from Alicante to London, TUI are showing direct flights after April 16th. I'm booked with them to fly back to Cardiff on April 21st. I honestly don't know if it will be cancelled or not but will no doubt hear next week if it is.
